Happytoes and i spent today starting the restoration on the interior trim in the Charger. Since the seats were reupholstered we need to restore the other pieces. So it all looks good. We used Zep degreaser, scothbrite pads, steel wool, xylene and a lot of elbow grease. Once all cleaned, I sprayed them with SEM Color Coat Sail Cloth White. I'll use this thread to chronicle the restoration of the interior. We'll be back at it tomorrow. :)

we accomplished quite a bit and it looks really nice. so far so good!

Yep just bookmarked it for ref when I get to my convert panels which are same or similar materiel .. thanks :)

Looking forward to finished pix.
Considering changing seats and vinyl to white since I'm in SoCal w/ non A/C car....

Looks really good!
In your white paint, do you have any pearl in it?

I just bought the other day what is supposed to be "pearl white", and it was outrageously expensive. It will probably take a week or so before I can start the painting...to motivate the price the end result has to be really good.

In my case I will have 3 layers...primer, base coat and the pearl...a bit complicated but ok if the result is good. The paint shop said that on top of it all I should actually have a layer of clear coat, but I thought that would become too much, especially for the door panels.

When i cleaned the rear door panels in the sun they had a pearl quality and sheen to them. But for painting them it's just SEM Sailcloth White 15603 in spray cans. I bought 5 cans and have 2 left. But I still need to do the front door panels and the panels on the front seats. So far in total with the paint and cleaning supplies it's about $200. I have a quote from the place that did my seat upholstery for 2k to dye/paint the panels and recover the door panels. I figured if i messed it up I would only be spending 10% more to have them do it. So far so good.

Well, be careful how you clean paint off of the front seat backs. Since the seat backs seemed like they painted with the same paint color as the other trim pieces. I decided to use paint stripper to get the paint off the seat backs. Because i thought the backs were metal. well they are, metal covered with vinyl or something vinyl like. so the vinyl bubbled and started to peel off. So i used the paint stripper to strip the vinyl off. So after some minor chemical burns from the stripper. I got the stripped and cleaned up. I bought a 24"x 60" piece of vinyl wrap that looks like white carbon fiber. it's hard to tell in the pictures that it looks like carbon fiber. Not bad for our (happytoes and I) first time using vinyl wrap. The vinyl wrap cast about 40 bucks on eBay. Well worth the cost.

Lookin' great!! Again, I love the white with red carpet combo! But the real question is... What's the newer vehicle that's all torn apart sitting in the garage? Is that the Durango with a donor HEMI for your Charger?

The donor car in the garage is for my wife's 70 Coronet. The donor is a 2005 300C. What started out as just seats for hers has become: 70 Coronet over the 2005 300C. The 300 is an AWD 5.7 car. But the 300C came minus engine/trans. The fire department cut the roof off. I bought it for the interior (seats, console, dash) and was surprised with what came for $600. We've since picked up a 6.1, SRT full IRS and 6 speed from a Challenger.

So we're going to try a body over. There is a roadrunner on eBay that was done by a place close to us. We'll probably use them for the body-over.

Her (happytoes24) car will be envied by most when done.

Nice work! Color Coat is bitchin stuff, used it to change my interior pieces to black and always works great

looking real good thanks for sharing your build with us
:headbang:

i haven't cleaned those up yet. But I am going to try some Mother's Metal Polish and the small power ball adapter. my pieces are in good shape. I'll post pictures once i've cleaned them.

On another note the carpet for the Charger is a PITA. I think when the interior were changed to white the previous owner must have had an upholstery shop do it. I say that because the carpet pieces in the ACC kit I got in some places dont seem to come close to matching the carpet I removed. I think the pieces that were on it were custom cut. The old carpet peices had greater coverage on the panels. In many places they wrapped around the panel. The big trouble spot is the carpet on the back pieces and how where they fit to match up with the back door panels. If I dont get it right I'll have a big bald spot where they come together.

Thanks to my beautiful wife (happytoes) and her sewing machine the edges that have vinyl are sewed down making really nice edges. The front seat backs have the carpet glued down. So I am once step closer to finishing the front seats.

I'll figure it out.

Thanks for putting this together. I just started working on my 67 and the people that owned it previously glued brown vinyl over the black plastic and put in shag carpet. I was able to find a set of door and rear panels and will have to clean and dye them and will be referencing this to do mine.
