My buddy has a 70 RR that he wants to convert to a Superbird. With that said, he has a POST car , not a hardtop. Does it make sense to remove the POST and do the conversion? There is a lot involved , I think, with doing this work and putting in roll up windows to replace the pop out ones. He, of course , has the fixed back window that pushes OUT / IN . He's getting all different opinions from people who want to sell him parts. I need honest opinions with no vested interests from people who love and work on these cars , and who know what it takes to do this kind of work. The other option he has is to just restore his RR , which is already in very good shape. It is a true RR, although it's no longer a matching numbers car because the engine is now a 440 and not the 383 it came with. I have my opinion on this but will not disclose this yet so that I get all of your opinions. I , and he, REALLY appreciate any info that you'd like to offer in this matter. PS: I told him that he could always find a base 70 Plymouth ( Belvedere, Satellite ) as a roller and do the conversion. Thank you for your time . John

Taking a perfectly good 70 Runner and trying to turn it into a Super Bird is bordering on criminal.

As a 70RR owner, I could not dream of cutting her up and converting her into something that she is not. I think it is a great car as is and I love the body. I love the Superbird too, but doing that to a RR to me is just blasphemy, especially if it is in good shape as you say. But to each his own.

First I would tell you that all the money it would take in the way of time and parts & labor to convert a 70 Post RR to a Superbird would go way beyond what a "reproduction Superbird" would be worth. With that said if he really wants go and "make" a superbird tell him to get his hands on a hardtop to start with and then make his "reproduction"......but he would be better to bide his time and search for a superbird project car.......might cost a bit more up front but will be well worth it and wind up probably costing the same (maybe less) in the end anyway.................

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no...in closing, I'd like to add, no.

I also agree will all of the above, and any other reasons to follow NOT to do this. I wouldn't do it on a Satellite, either. Utterly ridiculous.
