Looking for folks recommendations for mufflers to acheive my goals.

Currently car (mild 413) has a steel factory style twin system with log exhaust manifolds, 2 1/4" primary pipes, H-pipe and 2" tail pipes. It did have the longest cherry bombs on it I've ever seen, but they were rusty and though it had a great note, was too loud for my taste in a convertible cruiser. After I rebuilt the engine, I cheaped out and a local exhaust guy replace them mufflers with some short turbo mufflers after I told him I wanted it much quieter but to still have a bit of a note. The end result is it is 5% quieter (still too loud) and now even has an awful barking sound when hammering it. I hate it.

My plan over our winter is similar to Gregory C, where I am pulling my heads to fit MLS gaskets to drop compression (yep, 11:1 is too much even for our Premium 98).

Also gonna make myself a new exhaust system. I have a heap of 316 stainless 2 1/2 inch tube and mandrel bends I got cheap (i.e. free :icon_winkle:) and I will weld up a nice sexy new twin system with H pipe. :glasses1:.

My aim is certainly not for quiet, but I'd like a deep yet restrained tone at cruise in place of the awful drone and glorious tone on power in place of the bark I have now.

What SS 2 1/2" mufflers (and resonators?) would folks recommend?

I have a H-pipe and Dynomax Super Turbos still has a nice sound but yet wont beat your head off like BLOWMASTER DO I HATE THOSE MUFFLER..here is my car running better with good speaker to hear it..

Dynomax Superturbos. Nice. No drone.

Dynomax super turbo 2.5" in SS only comes in offset/offset. I think I will need offset/centre?!

Can't go wrong with Dynomax. I have the UltraFlos so I do have a little bit of a drone but I love the sound of them.

I love my Magnaflow XL mufflers :) I made a huge placement mistake when I made the system, but I love the sound with my Poly 318. When money isn't available, you make due with what you have. I rummaged through a few junkyards with my milwaukee hackzall in hand to find just the right mandrel bent 409 stainless tubing. Then frankensteined it all together in an H-Pipe setup. That's 2" off the manifolds, 2 1/2" to the mufflers, and 3" popping out from each side of the car. When I redo it, I will use the Magnaflow website to find the perfect Magnaflow XL's that enter and exit on the same end so the mufflers can be tucked up where they belong. These mufflers aren't Super quiet, but the sound is nice and round (hard to describe sound without a clip) with a good rumble and no rasp.

Not trying to start a $hit storm here !
But when I had to replace the muffler on my ram I wanted something to last as Flowmasters just rusted out.
I went on e/bay and looked at stainless mufflers and found some guys on there selling a Dynamax/magniflow Knock off.
It is stainless and of very good quallity buld ! At Half the cost to boot !!
Sounds Great and I am very happy with them. eBay item number:

Here is one of there adds . Don't let the price fool you as it is a very good muffler for the money !
Just trying to help your budget .

NICE! I have wondered whether they were any good! I do Love the throaty sound of Magnaflows, but the cost is outrageous. My vehicles usually end up with a used or secondhand set of Magnaflow mufflers from eBay due to the cost. It's good to hear a solid review of that off-brand! As you said, I refuse to buy Flowmaster because they rust out.

1st choice: Dynomax Ultra Flo
2nd choice: Dynomax Super Turbo

Tried both on my Coronet and prefer the louder Ultra Flos.

Hooker aero chamber mufflers sound really great and they're supposed to be really good quality.

I had those on my first runner and yes thay are of very good quality and sound good. But are pricy.

I installed a Pypes exhaust on my 70 Road Runner. It is a 2 1/2 x pipe system with headers and a stock 383. I think it sounds great. Some might think it is even on the quiet side, but it has no drone but still has a deep V8 sound...

I have Dynomax super turbos on my Charger as well. Full length pipes, 2 1/2” diameter. It's very quiet, you can hear the headers "sing". When it's cold you can hear the pistons slap (Wiseco). No drone, but when you hammer it down, it has a great sound. It's a real sleeper.

Hey there,
I've been running 42541 Flowmasters in the Charger since 2001 and have enjoyed the sound for the most part. Lately I've wanted an exhaust tone with less of a "bark". The Flowmasters I have do not have a drone. They don't rattle my fillings. I've never thought the car sounded like a "Mustang" like many Mopar guys say that FM mufflers sound.
I decided to switch to Dynomax Welded Ultra Flo mufflers. $77 each in 3" size, offset inlet, center outlet. The feedback I get is that compared to the Flowmasters, the Dynomax's are quieter at idle and cruise but they sound great under throttle. I recently bought an X pipe kit and the mufflers and plan to switch over the system this weekend. The existing system I have is a 2 1/2" with the dreaded "compression bent" bends in it. The pipes neck down to less than 2 1/4" at the bends ! The X pipe kit I bought has mandrel bends so I do expect a big difference in sound and torque.
From what I have read, an X pipe is a good way to reduce noise and increase torque. I'll surely report back once i get my car done. Good luck with the Dart.

Funny, but I had the exact same experience as you did with my Dart convertible (69 Dart not 62 - lol). Came with Noisemasters then I took it in to have some QUIET mufflers put on and now have this annoying drone under load.

A buddy (member DPStark) has the Dynomax in his 67 Charger and I was impressed with how mellow it sounded. I got Dynomax with my 3" TTI system for my 69 RR but have no data on that yet. On my 71 Ranchero I put 2.5" dia 25" long Thrush turbos on and it was extremely quiet. I just ordered them from Summit and the price was maybe $40.00 ea. Not stainless but very quiet. Thinking the same for my Dart or a repo system.

I have for now the flowmaster super 44's 3" and Jones glass packs as resonators at the tail end 3"x18"

The glass packs took out all drone in the cab as well as pushed the deepest part of the sound rearward. Much more quite in the cab then and especially now with the sound dampening on the floor with new carpet.
