This always helps me through these times.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Was Maxwell a Beagle ??, my dog hates his feet being touched, especially his nails done, it's like a wrestling match... but he loves to get "Buddy loven" gets up on my lap, lays on his back like a 80# baby, Lapradore Retriever...LOL.... well I pick him up now, he's too old, to get up on his own now... sad to see them go down hill, but nothen' better than a good ol' loyal dog...

He was beagle and who knows what ..he had a black tongue like a chow but nothing else so nobody really knows

been there and it sucks.I told my wife the dog is not going to be around much longer. The wife did not believe me at all and told me I was crazy. I could just tell he was slowing down little by little.About 3 weeks later I had to have him put down.

I'm posting my condolences here and true sadness for you without even reading the rest of the thread because quite truthfully I can't bear to think about it with my two.

I have a few photos of my Buddy when he was young too... Some good memories, I'm sure you have some good stories about Maxwell...

Sorry for your loss Nick . . . I know that road all too well as I had to travel the same road 4 years ago when my 16 1/2 year old Yellow Lab "Belle" ( she was named by my daughter's after Belle from Beauty and the Beast that had just come out ). Got to be one the hardest decisions that I've ever had to make - but Winter was approaching, and she was not doing very well . . . so it was my time to be the "responsible pet owner" and relieve her of all her pains and not let her suffer anymore. Thought that I would do fine . . . boy was I wrong . . . it tore me up so much as she had been with me through a loss of a job, loss of a marriage, and was my best friend - her tail always wagging - when I came home from work to an empty house as my (2) daughters were living with their mother 150 miles away.

The guys at my office understood . . . they left me alone, and it took me a week before I could talk to anyone without breaking down . . . they're part of our lives ( I'll always miss her ).

It's a very hard decision - but you're taking care of your best friend, that has been by your side for all these years taking care of you ( and you didn't even know it ).

Rest in Peace Maxwell . . . say hello and go play with Belle - she's a great gal . . . and all my condolences to you and your family for your loss.

This is a tough thing to go through and hard to read about, too. Our pets really do become part of the family. I've had to do it, too, and I dread when it'll be that time again. It's hard to lose our pals, but it's even more difficult when we're the ones who have to make that call. It seems to be a rare thing anymore when they go on their own. Hang in there, guys.

It's tough sometimes to have a pet. Most times we outlive them. That makes it hard on us owners. My daughter loves animals so she became a Vet nurse. Sometimes they have to put down three pets a day, injuries, cancers old age. I don't know how she can handle it, I couldn't, but I'm glad there are loving people out there that can help us through it. Sorry for your loss.

Hardest day of my life when it had to be done. I said no more dogs, cant do that again. I had another dog within a week. The new one sure made it easier. Get another one, 014.jpgyou wont regret it.
