Hello and thanks for taking time to read my post. Its time for me to decide what color i am painting my 69 RR and wanted to see what some of your opinions are on colors. My car is originally a F5 green w/ green interior. regardless of paint color i am going with an all black interior. I am torn between the original F5 green or something a bit more modern like the pic below. This will be my car and i don't plan on selling it but you never know what may happen. Whats everyone's thoughts regarding value of an original color versus a custom color keeping in mind the original color is F5 green. Thanks!

hey : take a look at all the original color options that were avaible for your year of car 1st , and see what u like , if not then go to custom paint , I M O b-3 ?, jamaica blue metalic w- black stripes would b cool

I like the F5, you won't pull into the local cruse night and park next another silver, red or black car. My vote is keep the original color.

I say it's your car paint it a color you like. I went back and forth on this for the last 6 months now and finally just decided to go back to b5 blue. Because I like that color not because it's the original color. I should have stayed out of this thread for I see someone put a color up I hadn't thought of (Jamaica Blue Metallic). Now I have to take a closer look at that color.

it blows my mind the amount of green cars there were back then. I don't think you'll hurt the value by changing both colors. You can't go wrong with black for an interior color. that opens up the choices you have for the exterior color. in the end paint it a color that you like. there are plenty of colors to choose from. b5 is a great color and something you cant go wrong with. try finding the colors offered in 69 and see if you like any of them.

best of luck

Thanks for all the opinions so far. If i go with original colors i will just keep the F5 green. I do like the B3 blue also but not over the grey color shown in my OP. Part of me really likes the sleeper/nerdy aspect of F5 green but in the long term i wonder if the grey would be timeless. And no offense by saying green is nerdy, i mean it as a compliment.

superbird77, I went through the same thing for the past few years you are bringing up here. I have a 1969 Satellite Convertible and at the time I did not really care for the F5 green which was my cars original color, I kept looking at a gun metal type metallic silver/ gray or something different than the original color. I also kept telling myself it's a Satellite with a lower value than other b-bodies of the same year and I could sorta give it a custom look. But in the end after looking all over for similar body styles with the F5 color, my mind was made up and I put mine last fall back to the original color and I'm glad I did, I just don't see too many of these cars this color and when it is all finished I think it will be a sharp looking car. One thing I'm doing is also what you mention about the interior, mine was bronze/saddle, that I could not get myself to like, I am going with a black dash, carpet and white door panels and seat covers, since it's a convertible I figured I wouldn't get so hot with white seats.
PS- I did however add black at the bottom like a GTX with a F5 .25" pin stripe just below where the trim goes, this could always be painted F5 to make the whole car the way it was born, I had to do something different, couldn't help myself....

When I was 18 A friend of mine showed me a picture of his 69 Black roadrunner with hood stripes. I have never been able to get that image out of my head. almost 30 years later. My opinion is the darker the better on that body style. The lines on the sides of the fenders when the light hits them, the stance, the curves, the stripes, soooo sexy!! oh where was I..... I think any color on that body looks good. If were a Hemi car or A12 I would say keep it factory, but in your case anything goes. Good luck and I hope it works out for you in the long run.

I am doing a similar black detail around the bottom of my '72 Rallye Charger. It is POR-15 right now, will cover that with whatever bedliner material I use under the car.

Here's my originally "B5 Blue" roadrunner......don't regret it a bit. Not worried about not having a 383 either, the 512 does just fine. I agree with these fella's. It's your car, paint it what ever color you could see yourself driving it around in....not to what anyone else may think, or what colors are out there already. Good luck...paint choice, tough decision.

Well, its just my opinion of course but I prefer the original color. My car came out with GK6 Bronze metallic and somebody had painted it (badly) in black. I tossed up what color I should paint it but now that I have stripped the interior and have seen plenty of untouched orignal color, I fell in love with it. I can't wait until its all painted back to GK6. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It's your car, find a color you like.
I'm not good at choosing colors out of memory. I used a graphic editing software with an outline of the car and used the fill color option to try several colors, stripes, wheels, etc. On my Charger, I ended up going with a totally different color and strip combination than I originally thought of. My software is limited to fairly basic solid colors when viewing a photo, you really can't see the perls, metalics, and candy colors shift color when viewing different angles.

On my T7 Bronze Coronet 500, I am thinking of using a close looking bronze color that has more of a gold metallic flake in the paint. I haven't decided if I want to keep the black on the lower part of the car (below the trim) like it is stock, or go all the same color, or maybe even fade it with a slightly darker bronze?

My car is white and so is the interior. It was originally dark blue with blue int. I love the white!!! I wouldn't think of going back to blue! This is your car so who cares what anyone else thinks. It won't hurt the value that much but that's immaterial. Life is too short to worry about such things. Enjoy the car while you can in the color you really like, period.

I was thinking about clear coating my stripped down bare metal car. lol. I kid, I'm going custom because frankly, it's my car. Even if I had a numbers matching car I would have a hard time liking the original dull yellow that came on the car.
Do what you need to do to make yourself happy. And if you don't have plans to sell it, all the more reason to open your garage and say "damn I love that color on MY car"

I like the silver you've picked out, you've only got one person to please and that's you so go for it. My Charger was also supposed to be green, it's now bright Tangelo Pearl Orange and I love it.

In my mind if it isn't a Hemi or 6-pack car, paint it whatever color you want. You are the only one it has to please - until you try to sell. I went back and forth for months on the color to paint my F3 69 Charger. Ultimately went with a 69 color, black.

I totally agree with most here. Even though my car is one of 933 produced in 1965 of 383 4 speed Belvedere II option. I like it like I like it. I only have to please myself no one else. Life is too short to not be happy with a color choice you see every day. Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead. I like the gray silver look as well!
