Since I have a 6 pak 440, would this be a good forum to ask carburetor questions? I'm not sure, but I don't think my outboard carburetors are opening.

They are vacum advanced.
That is where to start your troubleshooting.
Do you have a simple Vacum gage?
I think you should have a "solenoid", for "Idle"
Is it operating correctly?

Welcome to the site. Lots of great info here. Do a search on that subject here. I'm sure you will get answers.

They operate on vacuum. The carbs under normal conditions usually start to open at appx 3000 rpm's. Thats the appx vacuum condition needed. I know there are ways to check, but i don't know them. Hopefully someone will be able to let both of know. i also have a 70 v-code RR.

remove the vac line to the vac. pods and suck on it . while holding the throttle wide open - with engine off of course. or use a vac pump. they should open .

you should be able to suck them open by mouth. you'll also have to also use a finger over the kill bleed in each outboard carb for them to open. throttle will have to be wide open. i disconnect the return spring and set something on the gas pedal. that should atleast tell you if their capable of opening.

Awesome guys, thanks. Before I read these replies, right after I got home from another long day at work, I brought home a vacuum pressure transducer that plugs into a fluke multimeter. Free revving the motor, I got between 1 to a max of 4 psi of vacuum. I would say the average was 2 psi. I assume the motor pulls more vacuum under a load vs. free revving. Anyway, that's what I found. I will try the other suggestions and report back.

I made a 2 turn adjustment to each rod that connects the outboard carburetors. That and maybe driving it more (than it was before I bought it) seems to have solved the problem.
