Hyrdgoon's - project angrybird

So here's a small pain in my A$$.... I ordered this tach because I liked the look of the SW... seemed very "period" correct and "Ol' school" to me

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/sww-82162b/overview/

They had 2 versions of this tach dash mount and "universal" Turns out that even the "universal" doesn't sit in a cup-surround it's just an exposed back body.... SO now I have to see if SW sells a surround for it or sell it and look for something different.

Oh and I'm having another thought crisis I would welcome any opinions on.... I was going to put some time/effort/MONEY into re-spring/re-foam of my bench seat... Now I'm thinking for what it's going to cost I could pick up a NICE set of aftermarket buckets.

I'm a firm believer that the new factory made seats are the way to go for a good quality, cheap upgrade. I've got $175.00 in leather fronts and rears. Nice emblem Hydro.

Everything is looking great Goon. My TTi exhaust kit came with the Ultra Flows and I hope I like the sound. I have Flowmaster 50's on my Road Runner and was looking for something a little different. They aren't to bad but do have a heck of a drone at around 1800-2400 rpm which is kind of annoying.

what motor did you build? looks like the same QFT carb I bought - I got the 830 mechanical secondairies, electric choke and annular boosters. T"hat motor sounds great! wish i picked up a set of dougs headers... to make up for it I went with their electrical exhaust cutout kit :)

My apologies Goon!! Don't know how I missed this thread until now. Just read through the entire thing! Great job on the upgrades; engine sounds bada$$ and will definitely scoot! Hopefully we are within 30 days of some decent weather and you can get out.

Nice emblems Goon .. gonna be sweet mounted up

Thanks TH! I can't wait to see them in place either. Hood got a little further stripped and primer and paint yesterday. I'm going to hit the vents in the blast cabinet and re-spray them orange and get the new emblems in place as it goes back together. I'll definitely post a pic once it's up there

Really good to know on the seats! It's starting to seem like a "no-brainer" especially since the car is a driver having buckets would be much nicer

Wow! Emblems turned out great.... Should be after all the time you've waited.

Agreed! and thanks again for the recommendation and answering my questions.

I don't know if this makes sense but I find the Flowmaster's to be "raspy" and so far every video I've seen here for cars with Ultra-flo's I've liked the sound. Guess we'll see soon enough but I'm pretty confident I'll be happy... worse case I still have the brand new Super 40's that came with the kit

Mine is the QFT SS-780VS http://www.jegs.com/i/Quick-Fuel/793/SS-780-VS/10002/-1 The motor is a crate from CME it's a 522 Stroker the carb is the same one they used to dyno it and what they recommended.

I'm happy I went with the Doug's headers too! I gave some serious thought to cut-outs! I think you're going to love having the option to open them up for sure. I didn't know Doug's offered cut-outs A few guys here run the QTP's

Thanks 2059! and of course no apologies necessary just glad to have ya here :)

Things are looking promising here weather wise and I saw a few Hot Rods out yesterday so it looks like once the car is ready the season will be too! Being optimistic there's a chance I could be good to go as early as next weekend but I don't want to get my hopes too high because like everyone else on here there's little stumbling blocks along the way. For ex. looks like my secondary hood latch was welded onto a different nut and screwed a little bit over from the factory spot. Probably going to grind that nut off and try to get a back plate up in to screw it back to the right place because there was a little give... not a lot of work but it all takes time :(

Getting Closer...

Mity Mounts are installed, The new 489 Centre Section from Dr. Diff is installed (3:55 True Trac), Exhaust has been test fit... removed... middle section tigged... painted Krylon BBQ black and ready to be installed and the hood is painted and back on. Need to bend up some fuel lines and get this thing warmed up for some tuning and I should be in business

I got talked into painting the exhaust black to sort of minimize impact from a side profile of having everything dark and seeing a shiny new exhaust underneath... makes sense to me.

^^ I REALLY like that black exhaust idea!! consider it stolen. :)

Thanks 2059! It also serves to seal and protect after all the tig welding!

Grabbed a couple other pics while I was there today and also have a video of it running through the full exhaust to download later.

Here's the new callouts in place as well as a pic of the guages lit up in the car.

Looks like you're ready for the races! I'm sure the cops are gonna be thrilled to see a red muscle car running around with "522" badges..lol There goes the neighborhood....

hahaha Thanks Prop! The trick will be to not leave 2 long blackmarks directly from my driveway every time I leave the house this summer! lol. Feels like the end is in sight. I have a setback but working on a resolution now... I'm hoping to wait to tell the story after it's resolved.

In the meantime here is a quick vid of it running through the 3" with H-Pipe and Dynomax Ultraflos! I'm definitely happy I decided to change the mufflers from what came with the kit

Thanks USA! No word of a lie I spent 2 hours one night listening and comparing Dynomax, Flowmasters and Borla's and the Ultra Flo's consistently sounded awesome to me on everything they were on. I'm definitely happy with the choice and once it's tuned and running better I'll definitely get more videos.

Also wanted to say a huge thanks to Prop for recommending the Mity Mounts. Totally solved the torque-over issue with my motor and it's nice and snug now.... for some unexplained reason it even sits better on those mounts (slightly further back with more noticeable clearance from pulleys to fans and the P/S header has more clearance to the fender)

Wow GOON . . . You're moving right along there too ! ! ! Love the black painted exhaust . . . that is TOO COOL . . . and the call outs . . . WOW ! ! ! !

The sound of your car is great . . . there won't be black marks at YOUR house, I think it'll be ALL THE WAY DOWN THE BLOCK ! ! ! ! ( smile )

Hope you don't have a HEAVY foot . . . ( LMAO )

My pleasure sir...glad I could help, and they worked out well for you. :tiphat:

BTW.......Your car sounds tough! Like caged angry badger tough..

That motor sounds great Goon, I like the black exhaust too. Hopefully we hit the streets about the same time so we can share stories haha "here comes the fun".

The exhaust sounds great Goon. It will be interesting for me to hear the difference between yours and mine with Dynoflows. I have 1 7/8 TTI's, and 2.5 pipes. Oh yeah, I almost forgot - I don't have a 522 either lol.

That thing is really coming together nicely and sounds great, you are going to have way to much fun.
