When u pulled the old dizzy out, the button was facing the #1plug and the cap facing towards the engine.

Now the new one is facing #1 but the cap is facing the firewall and I cant get the cap to face forward due to the vac on the dizzy?

Anyone else have this problem? I got a reman from autozone. Sorry for the confusion.

Pictures would help to understand what you are explaining

Will get em up 2night. Tdc on compression stroke, are the valves I,E,I,E or I,E,E,I and is the com stroke when the intake up or down? Cant remember..

The #1 cylinder is the most forward cylinder on the drivers side. Compression stroke on that cylinder will have both intake and exhaust valves closed. Easiest way to locate TDC is to pull plug, insert finger into the threads and bump engine over until the compressed air rushes past your finger. That will be very close to TDC. Insert distributor so that rotor is pointing at #1 spark plug wire on the cap

K thanks, right now the cap w/#1 on the bottom is facing the firewall instead of the engine.

Sounds to me like you've got the distributor swapped over a couple teeth when you re-set it in the engine block.

You can align plug #1 to be anywhere in the entire circle of the cap by moving the teeth on the distributor.

It's pretty easy to correct - pull the distributor up slowly until you get the teeth clear - then spin the rotor in the direction that you need it to move - you can do this one tooth at a time until you get everything lined up the way you'd like it to be.

Remember, when you put it back into the block, and it meshes with the gears, it'll rotate the rotor a bit in one direction - account for this as you move it ( you may need to go further - or not as far as you think ) depending on where it needs to end up.

Hope that makes sense and helps out . . .

I got the dizzy straight now but it won't crank with the key but will at the relay. No start, just crank. Last tine it was the dam battery cable of all things.
