My 68 Coronet 904 has a leak.......somewhere.

I had driven the car last week on Mon, then the car sat for 4 days and I went to the gym in the morn on Friday.

Backed the car out and there was a huge puddle of transmission fluid on the garage floor. I cleaned it up, but didn't have time to look at it, and parked it again.

The next day I checked the fluid, it was on Add a pint, so I filled it, looked at the floor and it had not leaked anything. I drove it to the gym, 5 miles each way, nothing on the ground at the gym when I left.

Parked it over night and looked again in the morn, another puddle. Jacked it up, cleaned everything, filled it, let it run in drive, neutral and with the engine off for a hr or so, no leaks. weird.

Put it back on the ground, let it sit over night, big puddle on the ground the next day, WTF, what is the deal??

betting shifter shaft seal is bad....and torque converter drain back is probably why it's happening

I agree with the shift lever seal. Jack the car up on the right side in the middle or rear as high as you can go, then wait a few minutes and you should see fluid coming out in this area.

When you look at it before cleaning it up where does it have the fluid?

HMMM looks like the left rear corner of the pan, at least that's where the drips are accumulating

The fluid level is higher when the engine is turned off, because the pump isn't circulating fluid in the transmission casing. A friend had a car with a similar problem - it would hold fluid with no leaks as long as it was running, but leaked like crazy when it was turned off. I found the O-ring on the filler tube was torn, replacing that fixed the problem.

Put your hand in the area of the shift levers on top and see if it is wet. If so definitely the shift lever seals.
If not maybe pan or the reverse pin. (but they should show leakage most of the time.)

We just had to repair the gear shaft selector seal on our GTX. Seems to have fixed the problem as it is no longer leaking when it is parked.

Hey RP23...Mopar part # 1-02466548 selector shaft seal. Just picked one up the other day. Mine's doing the same thing.
