which carb is best

love the look of that carb. If you have a part number for it I can look into getting one if my last ditch effort fails. Where did you get that offset bracket for the coil? If I go to a similar setup I would love to keep the coil close to its present location and that bracket looks great. did you make it?

Thanks, the Proform part is 67208. The offset bracket and custom fuel line came from Greg at Fabulous Fabrications 303-666-9882 or [email protected]. Greg was great to work with. Honest guy, Quality work.

Like I said earlier, I have the same cam. Play with the timing before messing with the carb. It will probably need more initial timing. Timing is free.

well got to test the car using the .110 jets and .073x.042 rods. much improved on driving and light acceleration form lights, but WOT still bogs at 20 feet out of the hold. I have a set of .073x.037 rods coming but other than that I may be stuck. The accelerator pump is set at its highest flow on the .043 so I may back this down to the middle setting with the new rods and give it another go with the option of increasing the shot if it don't work. I have never had this problem with an edelbrock before and its just driving me nuts.

Has anyone used the Summitt racing Carb that is based on the Holly design? it appears to not have the gasket leaking issues I have heard Hollys do,.

Holley carbs don't leak, unless someone who shouldn't work on cars messed with it. Also consider a Holley style double pumper carb gives more fuel when the secondaries open up. The cam doesn't make it bog. It's all in the tune. I had one of those cams before. No bog.

I really think I would have tried this already as you suggested....its free and easily removed if not given the desired results.

right now I have 12 degrees with 36 total on timing, any suggestions on where to put it as new base.

I don't have any experience with it so not really. But I think GPuller had said he runs 20 degrees initial with the same cam. I would start with that and see if it helps.

My 440 is lower compression, 25 deg initial and 36 total. Vac advance is not hooked up.
I hooked up a vac gauge and advanced the timing to were the vac was highest. Then I put a light on it to see where it ended up. It was at 25. It still starts fine with that much timing.
Have a Firecore dist, so the mechanical advance was adjusted to 36 at 3000 RPM.

ok I would like to thank everyone for all the help. I am looking into the pro from carb. but that will be a future purchase (fall). As of right now, I got the timing right on this thing, and used the .110 jets with the .073x0.37 rods and increased the accelerator pump shot thru the .43 nozzels to a full shot, the bog is gone. any gear good hard pulls no bogging. Still seams a little weak so I am going to try the .113 jet and the .075x.037 rod and see what I get, at least if I am wrong I can go back, and then purchase the other carb. Everything points to a new carb if I want it to perform and behave on the street. I will also have to look into that bracket "thanks 69chargerboy". I will say for now it is nice to have something that will not fall on its face especially if pulling into heavy traffic and all traffic in Atlanta is heavy.

Oh for those who suggested timing bumps on initial..........with the Eddy not good but I will try that once I get a better carb. thanks again fellas, time to have some fun with this thing.

Dont forget you cant just turn the dist up to 20 initial as you will have to limit the mech advance to 16 to 18 for a total of 36 to 38. Ron

One word for you "Holley" that's what I've always ran. I tried an Eddy once and that was the last time.
X2
I had an Eddy 750 on my built 440 and I always had the bog that was mentioned. I bought the calibration kit and tried every combination possible and the bog remained. I bought my neighbors Holley 850 and man did that 440 come to life!! No bogs ever!!!

Seriously? He should dump his Edelbrock carburetor based on one of your experiences? How about we try to diagnose the actual problem before throwing out the carburetor? There are so many things that could be causing this problem, from timing, float level, fuel pump pressure, clogged fuel / air filter, etc. The Edelbrock carburetors are very tunable, if indeed, that is what the problem is. And, no, I'm not a Holley hater. I always ran them on my race cars and they, too, can be made to run fine. Throwing big dollars at a problem without proper diagnosis is a waste of money...

Definitely check the timing first. Eddys don't have enough pump volume in higher horsepower applications. A Holley has a lot more tunability. That will give you a bigger shot of fuel to eliminate the bog.

Beg to disagree. This is a street car. Check out the Mopar Superstockers. Sorry I got into this thread so late.

OK. I see he got the problem solved and saved some money too. Good going...
