Has anyone ever installed a Petronix Ignitor ignition upgrade.Thinking about upgrading my points system to is.I dont have any issues with it right now .Just wondering if its a good idea to replace it.

I have had a pertronix point conversion on my 56 Chrysler/Hemi for over 6 years. With their coil, it puts out plenty of spark and the engine starts right up with no points maintenance. I will use an Igniter III on my 64 Dodge build......................................MO

Have had Pertronix in my 70 440 6 PK for 4 years now, I used an original factory distributor & coil, My engine builder @ "For Hemis Only" suggested it & said, "You set it & forget it". Still works Great!

X2 on that TekHouse. I just went with the Ignitor 3 also. I had the 1st version of the Ignitor for a few years but I like the idea of the rev limiter. I like the fact that you don't need an ignition box too.

I have been using them for years but on my Coronet the PO changed to the Mopar set-up. I would have installed one if I got the car with points. Yes you will have to reset the timming. No different then setting the timming after installing points.

Thanks for the good reviews.
I just ordered it on ebay for $68 and planning on buying a cheap harbor freight timing light might be junk but only planning on using it once.

Do i need to cap off the vacuum advance?

what should the timing be set at? engines stock.fyi

Just got the ignitor in the mail.I was reading the instructions it says I need to wire it on the ignition side of the ballast resistor. Is this true or can I just connect it straight to the coil?

You have to bypass the ballast resistor. Either run a short jumper between the 2 connectors on the ballast resistor or solder a jumper on the back side of the ballast res.

Like the three pic?

Well, kinda..... basically when you run a jumper between the 2 posts of the ballast resistor you are connecting all of the wires on it together so you get 12 volts to the coil at start up and also when running. The purpose of the ballast res. is to reduce the voltage to the coil/points to increase points life. now with the electronic conversion you don't need the ballast res. but just all the wires on it connected together. I like to retain the ballast for looks but still bypass it. Now that you have it bypassed you can use the original wire in the harness going to the + side of the coil to provide power and run both leads of the Pertronix to the coil also. Red to + and black to - of the coil.

I know the thread is about Pertronix ignition, but wouldn't Mopar electronic ignition work just as well and be easier to install? Is Pertronix ignition that much better? Just curious.... Thanks.
