I just purchased an A833 18 spline hemi box with Hurst Super Shifter attached. I want to start accumulating the rest of what is needed to make the change. I have not ever run a 4-speed so I need some advice and recommendations on flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate. The car will be street driven with an occasional 1320 pass. The engine is a 440/512 that should make around 600hp and 650tq at the flywheel. Current gear ratio is 3:23 in the 8.75 but will be replacing with my Dana 60 and 3:54 or 3:73 gears. I picked up the hemi box for $500 dollars. I really could not pass up the deal. Attached are some pictures.

Good deal !! You going to go through it first ? Would be best to do it now so you KNOW it's good to roll !!

Use a McLeod dual disc setup. A billet flywheel and a Lakewood bellhousing. If you don't upgrade these parts, you run the risk of exploding the clutch and possibly taking your foot/leg with it..

That trans is at the limit with that kind of horse/torque. Don't skimp on going thru it.

We tore up several of them with less than 500 hp! Of course launching at 6k with 14" slicks ain't too easy on anything lol

Don't think I've ever seen a shifter mounting like that before. What did it come out of? You might measure your input shaft diameter to make sure it's the right size for a Mopar. A common thing to do for GM use is the machine them down to fit the back of the crank.

I was told that it was in a small block powered Dodge Colt chassis car. Thinking I might swap out for a Hurst Competition Plus that will correct fit the ole B-body. Do not know if I can find an installation kit that will work for my 66 Sat'.

Absolutely going to go through it. I have been looking for one of these things at a decent price for a while. Going to start accumulating parts soon.

You are correct about doing it right. I like my legs and feet the way they are. I remember my dads friend Van Brousard had one explode on him in his SS/A 68' Cuda. It came through the floor and took some meat with it.

You need to take a good look at the engagement points on the gears. If they are rounded over they are junk and that will make a $500.00 tranny into a $1000.00 or $1500.00 tranny really quick! Also the main shaft pilot and the corresponding bore in the input shaft needs to be in good shape. Good 18 spline gears are not easy to come by but Passon will have everything you need to make it right.

Or even worse, cut the car in half.

Other than the obvious stuff..... use dextron atf instead of gear oil or the synchronizes will lock you in gear

Does the A833 have a VIN# on it?
