Trying to remove a 64 Polara front bumper....having trouble with disconnecting turn signal housing so I can pull the bumper off. How does it disconnect from wiring?

and the side bolts holding bumper to brackets. There is no clean way to get to the bolts...and the bracket is connected to a "stabilizer" that goes under the radiator. Do I have to take off the stabilizer first or is there a simpler way i'm missing here??

Hi CPW,

I just removed my front bumper about a month ago. I'm at work now though so I don't have access to any of the pics I took and I also don't want to tell you something wrong from memory. I can get back in touch with you later this afternoon / evening if you still need help and somebody else here hasn't already answered your questions.

Appreciate any help I can get. Don't want to make a mistake and break something or scratch something that's a pain to fix or replace! Thanks...

The turn signals have a plug on the end of the wires, just pull apart. The signal housings have 2 screws, just unscrew them and they come out. The bumper outside bolts are a B!TCH, so put some blue painters on your wrench, this helps to not scratch the paint and you only get about 1/8 of turn each time on the wrench, so get comfortable, perhaps a air filled mattress, lol, and go for it.

Was hoping this wouldn't be as crazy...since I was going to swap it for a newly chromed front (and rear which came out pretty easily). I see the plug....but its way up the line past a rubber grommit unless you mean unplug it at the turn signal housing itself...

Disconnect it where it's plugged together.....no hacking!!!!

Hello again CPW,

For the turn signal wires, follow them until you get to the rubber grommets, then go past the grommet 6-8 inches and you'll find a flat connector. That's where you want to disconnect them. When you separate the turn signals from the bumper, those grommets stay attached to the turn signal wires. I'll try to post some pics here of my '64 front bumper area and maybe it will help.....

excellent 5.7 and Steve!! Thanks….FYI Steve….was your experience with the outside bumper bolts similar? or were you able to reach them in another fashion?

Unfortunately, 5.7 is correct re those bolts....they ARE a p.i.t.a., and I didn't have to be too careful since I'm doing a total reto on my car. I didn't see any better way then what he described....

I have to run for now but if you need more pics of something specific just let me know and I'll try to get it for you.
