1973 Dodge Charger SE Brougham! Resto-mod project

YEP yep, Got one in my 73, has been worked on some and is stronger then any other 318 ive ever had, mine has a nice sounding working ( i hope) roller cam in it But they are still not a BB (big block)... You'll, over time get the abbreviations i guess you call them and i apologize for not seeing you just joined up with us Mopar nuts :), So welcome to the dark side, fun side, you be the judge! :)

You have one of the Chargers that i think has the new-er sleek look to them, even more then the RR's the same year, enjoy! thumbs.gif

Only dreamed of having a car at 13. I had a paper route and bought a teak wood boat with a 40hp mercury on the tail. My dad towed me and my friends to the lake with a 1973 charger hardtop 33 years ago. I did end up with the charger for graduation but sold it to get a 68 Roadrunner. Now I have 4 mopars and a convertible SS the house I grew up in,wife and kids. who would have thought )

Stay close to this site you will get all the info that your car needs to transform it into a car wothy of showing off.

Congratulations on your Purchase!!

ISO DELETE!! ISO DELETE!! ISO DELETE!! Firmfeel.com.... is where I started when I got my 73 SE. 400 4v car last year. All the isolators under it went straight in the trash. Front, rear, including springs, and bumper fillers. I Installed 71 R/T tail lights, 71 Grilles, 71 SE legendary interior, power bulge hood, 2" drop blocks rear sway bar out back with 275 60 15 rear 235 60 15 front on The old school Cragar SST. I will post a pic when I install the rebuilt transmission and get it out of the garage. It's the original white now, but I'm going black also. Been looking and black is the best color for the SE n my opinion.

Have fun and don't let having to do something twice to get it right discourage you from transforming your ride into a car that will be an extension of who you are and what you like.

May time be good to you!!

Painting it black means everything need to be perfecto! :) It is a color that will show any imperfections but one of the coolest colors you can have!!, You just cant beat a black Mopar, even with a SB in it lol... Have fun and enjoy it!!!

I agree that if its going to be black, then it needs to be straight. What plans have you got for your build? I notice the title of the thread says restomod. Are you planning on making major modifications, new souped up engine, modern wheels etc?? Or do you intend to try and keep it mostly original (except the color of course)??

I think you may have me confused with, maybe 747mopar? Restomod is what he is doing, im on the Plymouth side of things for now.. Ive done it a few times myself reading so much in the resto section hear! :)

Sorry Ron, I wasn't clear with my last comment. I was agreeing with you about the black body needing to be perfect. The rest of the question was for 73dodgechargersebrougham about his build. BTW, I checked out some pictures of your car...........very, very nice

Ron 73, it is a big block, at least thats what the prev. owner told me

Yes sir if its the 400 its a big block! 727 is a great trans to put behind it to... You'll have a car to be proud of, i hope you enjoy the work you do on it and have fun!!!

I have a 73 in almost as good of shape as yours. mine is not a SE which i like better between the two styles. I have to agree with doing away with the ISO stuff and bumper fillers. if you dont have the funds right now to get a 4,000 lbs. car into the mid 14's, add some goodies to sound the part and just cruise it. you will get alot of looks and thumbs up just being on the street in it. Mine is just a 318 with a good rumble and people still appreciate the look and sound especially the older guys. IMO chin spoiler and go wing

I agree with the sound enhancement. At the electrician's shop where its at right now, they had to put the car behind the chain because many people were stopping and looking at it and opening the doors and asking if it was for sale! haha. But the sound is not the best at the noment. It is quieter than I would likr

Well, I will be doing a restomod. I will probably put a new motor and trans in the distant future. I will be putting on new wheels (most likely these in the front and the 15x8 in the back http://www.classicindustries.com/mopar/b-body-charger/parts/rv57650a.html). I will be making it floor shift with the center console and with an aftermarket shifter (http://www.carid.com/1973-dodge-cha...ormance-sport-automatic-shifter-11101070.html) I will be putting a new steering wheel, cd player, new speakers, 2 amplifiers, subwoofers, aftermarket digital or needle gauges, edelbrock air filter, performance headers, custom performance exhaust, new heads, 440 crankshaft, new column, and maybe twin turbos :)

Nice '73. My geography teacher had one new fully loaded, with a 360/727/3.23:1 Sure Grip combo and it pulled good. Low 15s on G60-15 tires wasn't all that on the strip but on the street it was a monster

Hi, have you finished this car? I am looking around at older posts, the grill looks good, do you want to sell the head light fillers? The light silver flexible parts?

thank you,

Mike

Anybody who is still interested in my build, I've gotten a whole lot more knowledge about my car scouring the internet and just working and exploring the car! Since I bought it a little over 2 years ago, here's what has been done:

Performance tune-up
complete rewiring
monroe gas shocks up fron
monroe monro-matic coilovers in the rear
New brake pads (needs a lot of stopping power for 5410lbs!)
moog front end
aircraft aluminum steering coupler
new diff gasket and differential cover cleanup done by yours truly
flowmaster super-44 series "muffler" installed, resonator cut off
rev classic 100s installed wrapped in cooper cobras
blue halo headlights installed (i had to grind down the inner circle of the housings so the lights would fit)
a lot more I know I'm forgetting but off the top of my head, this is what I remember!

Need/ want list:
Looking to possibly get a 512 stroker kit for my 400bb or build a 440 double carb
wider rear wheels and mt street radials
Supercharger or turbo
considering a performance tranny with about a 750hp rating
3.83 gears (hopefully soon because current gears are 2.71)
etc etc

Car has been enjoyed since we got it roadworthy. long cruises, car shows, dirt roads, dirt donuts, brake stands etc. Not gonna abuse it on the dirt roads after i get it painted so Im gonna enjoy it while I can :confederateflag:

Here are some recent pictures... Top of fenders and hood have been PRIMERED matte black just to protect it from the arizona sun
