Iv got the manafolds off,, but darn it , how in the world do I get the headers on, iv got got the starter off , cant seem to clear the steering shaft,,, help , someone said to come up from the underside of the car

Hahahahahahahaha. Sorry. Dont mean to laugh, but you are earning your mopar wings. Try taking the bolt out of the motor mount and jacking it up some. Coming up from the bottom may help but if youre doing it on the ground that can be equally a pita

Am in the middle if my headders now... super competition hookers.... like above stated check out my thread....

Am in the middle if my headders now... super competition hookers.... like above stated check out my thread.... you have a big or small block?

If you have a column shift that needs to be modified as well... some have done it in 3 hours.... I'm going to be into it for at least 5 whole days with the welding and fab of the shift linkages if I can bend them enough to clear my steering linkage on the drivers side... and I have done headers before and sorta kinda knew what I'm into.... and the pass side hits the torsion bar..... earning it to say the least.

The drivers side: remove starter, remove motor mount bolt, jack this side up a little, install header from under the car. When header is in place but not bolted, install starter. Then bolt header. Just like a Chinese Puzzle! Any "Bonehead" can do it!

You have to remove the engine to trans bracing also.... it's a lot of steps and the steering linkage had to come off and pass through and over on my 318

I had to take the center link completely out AND jack up the motor to get the passenger side headers in, this was with hooker comps 1 7/8 in a 70 roadrunner. The driver side was easy with the steering link out, but the pass side I had to loosen the motor mount and use a pry bar to move the motor up. Fun! Then installing the starter added more good times.

I had to install both from underneath using a lift.

generally, most headers install from below, easier on stands. Then lift one side of the engine, put the header in, repeat on other side. On many installs, a big hammer helps. Denting or 'retuning' headers is not that rare.

I got the thousand dollar TTI's and my installer still had a tough time. Did it when installing the 440. A puzzle as said. I can't even get plugs out or tighten bolts without drawing blood. Work safe and NO collateral damage!

Forgot, one dimple do ya. Had to dimple the TTI at the idler arm psgr side.

You need to jack up the rear end and get it on jack stands. Tall 6 ton jack stands so the *** is way up in the air; this will allow you to slide the headers up more easily from underneath. Like others have said, you need to unbolt each sides motor mounts as you work on that side and tilt the motor over giving you more room, either with a jack or a motor lift. I didn't disconnect the steering link on the second install of my headers. Was able to slide the headers up.

I really like the "*** in the air part.

For putting mine in (400 bb, power steering, 69 charger) I just removed the driver side motor mount bolt, jacked the motor up, jacked the car up about 3ft and dropped them in from the top. There was no way to get mine in without jacking the car up high enough that I could put them in facing straight down then rotate them into place then dropping the driver side back down once they were in. Pain in the ***.

My steering has to pass through the hooker super competition. And it's too tight by an inch I would have to crush them flat to get the steering through.... they have to be a body headers ......

Did the steering pass over and through the headers on the drivers side?

Go to the maker of your headers web site, they should have installation instructions.

What kind of headers do you have?

I got them from summits ittheir brand 1 7/8 coated they was 400 cheapest coated header I could find? That mite be my trouble,, I did t remove the steering cross bar,, I didnt know what yall was talking about , at first , but tomorrow ill remove the cross over thi ng, and try again, , joy joy, this sucks

I went with the 1 7/8" TTi's mainly because all of the complaints I've heard about 2" header installs. Mine fit real nice, but I still had to raise the motor up a bit, turn the steering, and put them in from the bottom. The biggest problem I anticipate is having to remove the starter if it ever fails - that will be a royal pain in the a$$.

What a waste of time. I just looked up your headers on Summit's site and by golly, there, right in front of me were complete DIRECTIONS for installing those headers on your car. I'd print them here, but if you're too lazy to look at the directions, you deserve to struggle with the install. I just don't get it. Why come on here and ask questions and bitch about a product when the answer is right in the box with the products? AND, if perchance the directions weren't in the box, WHY NOT GO TO THE SITE YOU BOUGHT THE PRODUCT FROM AND LOOK THERE? Again, a total waste of time...
