I know it's blasphemy but I really want a better sound system in my 65 500. The engine sounds way cool but there are times I just need some tunes. I have 6x9's in the rear deck and a decent 4x50 watt receiver under the dash. I have a couple amps available if needed and thought I might even put a small sub under the seat. I am looking for idea's where you installed front speakers and if you've been happy with them. I think someone may be making the front dash speaker bracket modified to hold two small round speakers but I wonder if anyone out there is using the setup, where you found the bracket and if you're happy with the sound. other ideas ???? Thanks !

I'm the same way. Gotta have my tunes, but want no visible sign of modern electronics. I've been pretty happy with just running rear 6x9s. Having an amp gives it a little more poop. Front speakers would be ideal, but I just can't come up with a good solution either.

There was a member on here a while ago who made a bracket to mount 2 small speakers in place of the factory front speaker. I sent him the mounting bracket out of my 68 coronet parts car and he made me a bracket just for sending him my old bracket. He is also on the A-Body site
I believe he went by 75DartSport

I did this out of a piece of aluminum for my 73 then painted it black.

I used the factory mounting holes and some spare strapping to fit a pair of 3 1/2 two-ways under the dash grill. Pic gives you the idea.

I like the idea of using the factory spot in the dash. Anyone who is doing this have opinion on how it sounds ? What brand/type of speaker did you use ? As for 75dartsport, I think I worked with him for awhile. It was right after shoulder surgery and I tried to get him good pics, sent him some templates I made but never could get it right. If it's the same guy, he is meticulous and like all engineers, wants the finished product to be exact, as it should be. Maybe I'll try to get back in touch now that I can crawl back up inside for better pics. He was pretty helpful but we just couldn't get together on the thing.

Pioneer tune tune up speakers mounted to the kick panels with hook and loop...sound great you get more of the stereo sound being father apart.

For me it isn't a big deal as I had holes in the door panels for speakers that had been done by po. I was going to suggest the kick panels. As stated it will spread the sound out a lot better than 2 little speakers coming out of the same hole, although for that not seen look, a very good idea. Another thought might be to place a speaker in a small speaker box under the front seats, if room. It would have to be small, but it could also be removable. You might even have to build the boxes. I've done that in the past and worked reasonably well. Good luck.

Thanks. I like the placement in the kick panels. What does hook and loop mean ? Is there enough room for the magnet on the drivers side ? I know there is a ton of room on the passenger but there doesn't appear to be much depth behind the driver's side. Can I as k a couple other questions. I still have some loose ends to finish up. What are the toggle switches for under headlamp switch ? What is mounted in the spot on the cluster that I think used to be a clock ? Is it still a clock ? Final question, where is your radio ?

Thanks Again !

No you won't have any room for speakers in the kick panels. I also went with the undercover 2 speakers under the front seats. In passed cars I go all out with the stereo, but this cheap setup sounds better than some other cars I have had with big dollars in it.
JVC head unit, under cover 2 speakers with a 500 watt fosgate amp and the Pioneer tune ups, I would guess I spent under $300 total.
