Disclaimer, no other choices, no neither, no save up for....one or the other, I only have a cheap 2" exhaust system with stock manifolds, dual with no crossover, both mufflers internally blown, just looking for an inexpensive replacement, till the entire exhaust system gets replaced in the future, so no need to waste money on a temporary fix. I'm buying either the Thrush from Summit Racing in Ohio off of eBay, or the Cherry Bomb Glass Packs from another Ohio eBay seller, I even have an eBay $20 off coupon on my next sale, so cheapo is the word of the day. Don't care if they rust out in the next year or 2, need something now, money is super duper tight, over the winter and/or next year hoping to upgrade to a 383/400 to replace the current 318.

With my discount and free shipping, I'm not paying more than $30 for either pair.

hell, I'll add a third choice..."doesn't matter" but pick your preference if you will.

Thanks

Sounds like you answered your own question. Who ever is cheapest!

Both about the same $$, was just curious if one was better or worse than the other for any specific reason

it's been a loooong time since I've owned either, correct me if I'm wrong, cherry bombs are a little louder, but the thrush tends to rust out faster...?

Ok, performance wise .... See if the Cherry Bomb has a smaller inner diameter. Some glass packs I have seen neck down on the inside pretty good.

If it were "I" doing this, it would be the Thrush Turbo mufflers because the have a decent sound like a muscle car should have.
"I" myself hate the glass pack sound because it sound cheap, chinsy, crappy like some 18 year old slapping on a coffee can on there car and the. Revving the crap out of it like some wanna be racer.

That's just my opinion, do what you wish since it is a temporary thing.
I myself would get the muffler that I want to end up with after you swap to a Big block and in the diameter you want to end up with.

Thanks, I thought I remember the glass packs being a little tinny sounding, I don't mind being a little loud with a decent tone, leaning towards the Thrush.

try summit street & strip mufflers. about $30.00 ea. nice tone. I have them on my 65 satellite.

A sentimental opinion on my part: Thrush. The first thing I did on my car when I was a kid, before the Hush Thrush. By the way, does anybody know how the "turbo " muffler term originated ? ( I bought a pair of the actual originals from my local ..... ..... , way back in the day, before the imitators were made).

Are they both smooth threw the inside? I've seen some glass packs that had big dimples hanging into the center and looked really restrictive. I really liked the Thrush mufflers I had on my last car.

DSC02281.jpgYou giving me this choice, I'd go with the Thrush Turbo, just because my old mufflers are Thrush mufflers, and I like them. My straight though mufflers are loud with no restriction.

I checked on these, only about $70 for the pair, but don't see them in 2" inlet/outlet which I need, or I'd have to reduce them...more cost. If I went with these in the future, size wouldn't be an issue when I redo my entire exhaust.

Purple Hornies

a little more pricy...less size options, mostly header mufflers

I'd go with Walker "Super Turbo's". Less back pressure than Thrush and both I think made by same company. Walker Super Turbo's have the addt flow channels inside the muffler so it flows like a true "S"
I run them on my Cuda--no difference between those and open headers in Qt mile. 40.0--50.00 a pc.

+1 for the Walker Super Turbos. I found mine on Ebay for $27 apiece SLIGHTLY used...they were ran just long enough to break an engine in. They sound good and don't drone bad at all. As for the Thrush Turbo or Cherrybomb...whichever is the better deal. But, in that price range I'd try to find the Super Turbos. That's my .02.

Listen to sound bites on Youtube for a choice. There are a bunch of vids out there with 318's equipped with either mufflers.
