My wife was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in Dec 2012. The Bee has been sitting in my brothers garage in Ga. for the last year and a half. My wifes operation was on 9-11 of last year. She's now been cancer free since then. So it's back on the Bee!
I've been working 14 hour days for the last 12 days in a row trying to get her (The Bee not the Wife)in paint. I have changed my mind about the color again and will put her back to Hemi Orange. Hopefully I'll be able to at least have her painted before i have to go back to work next Monday. Here's what I've done so far....
Since I have to be back at work on the 7th (this Monday) there wasn't enough time left to get the Bee in paint this trip. All of the body work is completed with the exception of a few dings on the power bulge part of the hood.
Everything is cut in paint wise. the insides of both doors are done. The cowl on both sides along with the inside of the fenders. The fenders were treated with POR15, self etching primer than epoxy primer before sealing. Followed by color and clear. The inside of the engine compartment was such a mess that I ended up chemically stripping all of the layers of paint then pressure washing the whole car prior to sealing prior to paint. I didn't plan on spending over 40+ hours on the engine compartment but the results were well worth it.
I'll up load pictures in a few minutes
Thanks!
Bill

Sure am glad that I went back to the Hemi Orange:hello2: It just fits..
Hopefully I'll have a couple 3 day weekends off from work to try and get the Bee totally in Orange.
The Paint is a 3 coat system. White sealer. color base than clear coat urethane.
I realized that now I'm going to have to either clean each fastener, nut and bolt. Paint them a matching color and worry about chipping the paint off while bolting everything back together. Or...clean and electrically coat each piece. Maybe I can buy the hardware already done? Have to wait and see.
:happy6:
I see now why there isn't anything called a "simple restoration". This has turned out to be a "complete nut and bolt restoration", more like a work of art!
Fortunately it looks like every bolt, retainer screw or fastener is available! Which I've ordered. I've pulled the 6 pack off and brought back home to rebuild the carbs.
Two years ago the bench seat w/head rest that I ordered from Tony's parts was covered to match the black custom door panels that I had made.
The packages started arriving yesterday and more came today!:hello2: It's like flippin christmas:happy7: around here in July. Still hotter n hell. I bought every body bumper kit, body drain plug kit, headlight adjusters, jack instructions, tire pressure decals. Bla bla bla bla. new starter relays, dimmer switch, tail light fasteners (nuts) etc.
Any way I've never bought new stuff like you see on restored/show cars so this is a first for me!
Sure is fun! Can't wait to get back to Ga. and finish the body work and prep.
Thanks
Don't forget to scuff each area around your grounds when you bolt it all back together. If you're clever, prior to paint use some round masking dots and cover the ground mounting locations. scuffing fresh paint is hard on the heart. I've done too much on mine already!
Bee looks great and super glad to hear the wife is doing ok. Keep us posted on both!
Thanks! Good idea. Another question comes to mind. How can you keep the new bolts, washers and hardware looking good after all is back together?? Everything has a black phosphate looking coating. I've thought about having them coated with a clear anodize. Clear power coating, or making different round stential to be able to go back and spray matt gloss clear over them.
Has anybody done anything like this OR am I going off the deep end/
Has it really been 3 years?
Since my last post, that famous, " Life happens" quote. Has happened more times than what previously was believed possible. I have endured multiple major surgeries. My wife, God rest her soul passed away in my arms one year ago this week. My last surgery was on the 20th of June this year. And I was able to get the second application of the final clear coat on "Half of the car" 12 hours before surgery.
