Getting ready to put my exhaust manifolds back on my 318 poly. Dummy here forgot what holes are my water jackets. Can I install all studs or do I need the studs in the water and bolts in the others. Thanks for helping the dummy out.

your best bet is to install studs in all the holes as i did with my 354 hemi as it also has holes into the water jackets

Thank you, that is what I was thinking.

Poke a wire into the hole. If it hits bottom quick, it is a blind hole and bolt is OK. If it goes deep, it is in the jacket and studs area needed.

One more thing you should not forget is to put thread locker on those studs. If not, there is the great chance of leakage.

I always use studs. some ARP Teflon thread sealer is a big help in preventing leakers.

I have used Indian head gasket shellac on the threads of bronze studs with stainless nuts and washers torked to 25 ft pounds on those... never leak and never freeze or cold weld. Looks nice too

If your running the original harmonic balancer and balanced pulley... yikes!! On my 9/66 la 318 had the same set up and with 50,000 miles on it it was shot... had walked a few degrees of timing and because of the age the Lilly had separated and would vibrate and slip when my ac came on..... there's a company that can rebuild them but I don't remember who but there on the web or a new replacement.... but I would highly caution running that old setup.
