I had Indy heads (5-axis ported) on my 1971 Demon 340 and they were great. I want to upgrade my stock heads to an aftermarket set. Has anyone used their EZ cylinder heads? How abput Edelbrock Performer RPM heads? Also, how can I tell if I have a hydraulic flat tappet cam which I believe I have a roller cam?
Thanks

I run the standard Indy EZ heads on my 63's eng and I like them alot. I was going to use the Eddy RPM heads but I got a good deal on the EZ heads and I feel they may have more potential then the RPM heads when fully ported which I may do down the road if I want to step it up some. I run a basic combo with dished pistons to have 10.6 comp with the EZ heads and I have good quench so it runs fine on pump gas. I use a solid flat tappet cam and the Indy dual plane with an 850 DP. Its a nice driver that runs in the 10's on pump thru the full exh. If you just pull your intake off you can look at your lifters to see what you have. I am asuming you have adjustable rockers ? You can click the link in my sig if you want to see more on my combo as the eng build in it now is at the bottom of the page. Ron

I was talking with Bowman Performance and might have him rebuild my engine. My almost stock engine runs great and I would like to have a bit more power so I think the heads are the first to change (and reversible if needed). I would love to have a stroker kit from Muscle Motors, but my wife would kill me if I rebuild another engine so soon after my 1971 Demon.

I run un-ported EZ's on my .030 over 440 with a flat tappet cam on my'66 Coronet and love 'em. I did break a retainer so you might upgrade to titanium.

I have a solid flat tappet camshaft in my R/T. I ordered a new cam and hardware due to the fact that I have no idea what cam I have in the R/T now. $359.00 is cheap insurance.

I went with the Indy EZ heads and ordered a set from Compu-Flow. He is porting the heads and port matching the Indy intake. He is one of the easiest and nicest guy to do business with and he recommended Indy over Edelbrock. I have an Edelbrock 1812s manual choke 800 cfm square bore carburetor on my R/T. Would the carburetor be sufficient or would a Holley 850, 950, 1050 cfm be better? I do not want to go with a double pumper. I was looking into Demon 850 or a Holley 1050.

i have a 505, stealth heads ported to 315 cfm, Jim is porting an edelbrock rpm intake for me and Patrick is building me a custom holley type carb for $915 deliivered to australia, and i believe it is 1000cfm. alot of reading has pointed an 850 would be a good choice for around the size your looking for. but i am sure someone with more experience will chime in

Actually the Demon 850 and Holley 1050 are double pumper carbs. Why do you not want to use a double pumper ? Ron

Thanks, I did not realize they were a double pumper carb. What modifications would be needed to run a double pumper? I never had a problem with the Edelbrock 800 so I would like a direct replacement with a higher flow if possibe.

Engine work complete except for dyno tuning. Being sent to a transmission shop this week to upgrade the transmission to take the expected power and torque. It should be done completely in the next two weeks unless I decide to upgrade the drums brakes to disc.

I'm just asking here.... how radical is this engine? From my experience, any 440 (I've only had 3 of them) that is even close to being streetable is just fine with a 750 vacuum secondary Holley. IMO "more flow" is does not necessarily mean faster.

I am using a Holley 850 vacuum secondaries and I have not driven it yet. It is stroked to 500 cid with ported Indy EZ-1 heads and port matched intake. It still needs put on his dyno to tune it after the transmission is beefed up.
