Is mopar engines really that good?

Hello!

So this is my question is mopar engines really that good some people say they have bad tolerance=way to high tolerance.

Dont get mad at me i own a 69rr with a 440 magnum.
 
This is what I have learned:
I use to play with Pontiacs...GTOs 400CI, 421 & 428/ 455CI engines.
When I took apart my first Mopar, my 383 from the Bee (now has a 426 Hemi) I was amazed at how much larger the 383 was over the Pontiac engines.
To me, the Mopar 383/440 class is built incredibly more durable over the Buick/Pontiac/Olds group.
Reinforced lifter galleys, beefier "mains", larger journals, heavier and taller blocks.

So, form a manufacturing stand point I would say the Mopars are more durable, which is a good thing.
 
In my nearly 40 years of building engines......I haven't seen that sort of thing. Who told you they have bad/high tolerances?

obviously someone who doesn't have much, if any, experience with Chrysler products

I can only name one bad engine made chrysler....Chrysler 2.7 Liter V6 Engine...Who ever said that statement... He is not a Mopar man..........
 
It was the same guy who said Chrysler torsion bars break all the time...
 
GM Motors had their place at one time. I had fun with them until I discovered MOPARS. Much better block engineering then GM had then and even now. Ford is a not too distant 2nd from MOPAR as they really are quite similar to a MOPAR B/RB although with slightly different numbers. It has been said the the GM 454 was the best block out there but you will never convince me of that when 99% of the racers back in the day were running Hemis even in their badged GM and Ford funny cars. So you tell me....cr8crshr/Tuck
 
About the only real bad thing you can say about Mopar engines is that the factory hard parts are overpriced compared to GM and lately Ford. GM BB short block sells for what a bare 440 block costs.
 
I'm not sure what tolerances you're meaning - but it doesn't really matter - the 383/440/426 series are tough motors and will even stand up under sloppy tolerances. Only thing I wish they had was an allen wrench points plate adjustment/cap window like GM used for awhile. But most people don't run points any more anyway.
 
When I had my 72 400 block done for the 451 setup, Chuck (my engine machinist) said when he milled the block for true it was only off ten thousandths. He's been doing this for 35 years and said GM had the worst tolerances he's seen and he's done them all. Funny thing is he's a Chevy guy. How's that for a testimony.
 
I've built Ford's and Chevy's and I personally will take the Mopar any day. Just flat out beefy

back in the day,late 60s early 70s in my town of lebanon tn. we were the minority but were the fastest and most durable cars. a stock 67 440 gtx was the king.the chevy guys big blocks and auto trans were consistantly coming apart a lot more often than us mopar guys.we called the guys that drove the chevells the "chevelle sisters"
