how long can a headliner last in the box ?

I never thought about that till now,I have two in the boxes for over 10 years!

I used one last year that was in the box for 6yrs. You could see the creases in it. Good news though. The interior guy that put it in , cut the hole for the dome light wire too far back!! He had to buy me a new one and re install it !!! LOL

I'm thinking I Can live with the creases... it will be some time before I install it and will pull it out of the box and try and let it sit in the sun soaked in mothers for vinal...

Hmmm wonder how mine is, had it in the box for about 20 years. It's black and I now need a white one.

I'm trying to duplicate the old car smell and age it up some... but 20 years.... May be too brittle...

I had one that was over ten years old that I put in my Fairlane is 2011. I laid it out for a couple weeks before I put it in and when the weather was good put it out in the sun. During the installation I used a steamer and stretched it tight, had no creases or wrinkles.

Sunlight and heat is what dries out vinyl and staying in a box is the best place to keep it.

I think I will take it out and use a steam iron with some cotton on both sides and use the sun... I have a big card board tube I can use to roll it up on... a few weeks before installation.... I was thinking of the seams and using some rtv to seal the threads on the in side so they don't unravel... my original one is mint except for the seams loosened up.

I bet some of the less used sizes sit on vendor shelves for years, especially the smaller businesses.

Exactly... how many '67 4 door coronet owners get new headliners.... as long as I can salvage it I'm ok...

I bought mine from Legendary 20 years ago but i took it out of the box and rolled it up when i got it. Smells mildewy but no wrinkles. Taking it to a dry cleaners.
