would it be blasphemous to put a complete 68 charger dash in a 69 GTX?

I have a complete dash from a 68 charger and a 69 GTX in pieces and I am thinking Hmmm.

what do you guys think.....bad idea or maybe....

It's your car. I don't think the donor charger will care. it would be different, which is good.

I like the rallye dash in my '70, so if you have everything you need to do it, why not?

as much as i like the rally cluster, its a no. if it were just a belvedere or satellite it wouldn't be a issue. being a GTX stuff like that will decrease the value if you ever do sell it. i remember seeing a 69 GTX last year for sale with a rally cluster. it just doesn't look right to me. if you use your existing dash frame you'll have to cut it up to make it fit. once you do that going back won't be easy. i like to modify stuff, but things like f'd up dashes suck. i just fixed the hacked up dash on my RR, it wasn't easy.

my RR when i got it

and a hell of alot of trouble to put it back

I'll tell you from experience it's hard to find GTX dash parts. But on the other side of things it's an integral part of the look of the car. Maybe you could get some serious cash for a complete charger dash and invest that in a repop stuff. I have a 68 GTX and have modified stuff for mine - but I don't think I would do it to the dash. Tough one. Always remember it's your car - build it like you like it....

I hear you about the fact that its a real GTX (RS23).....and I thought about that. But this GTX is not nice. No build sheet, no fender tag, I have the numbers transmission and the numbers block but the block is cracked and the body is pretty much trashed from being a race car before. This car will never be original, Its been painted so many times that I have no idea what is original.

If I stay with the GTX dash then I need to find a 150 speedo and trim pieces .....if I go with the charger dash, I wont be hacking any frames because I have the charger frame.

im still on the bubble

Changing the whole frame is the way to go, other than removing the windshield. It sounds like your car won't suffer any loss of value since the tag is gone anyway. Of course, use the charger harness as well.
