Pretty good Hellcat article

Brian, I was asked what would impress me. Name calling and rambling isn't debating. Reading comprehension is nice as well. In a previous incarnation one of my cars went 10.90's at 130 and got 25 mpg on the highway, so I have owned one...have you? As a matter of fact, same car got beat to 70 mph on the street by a practically stock WRX...that was w/ me on drag radials...high powered cars are overrated on the street. Sorry you don't like facts or can't recognize them. By the way, I've stated numerous times I can't stand the retro styling on the Mustang. Get off the 'fanboy' thing, you sound like a teenager.

Why repeat something that seems invalid in the real world? Weight may have little to do with highway efficiency...if you're talking about a train with steel wheels on a steel rail. But on a car, of course it matters. More weight means increased losses due to hysteresis. If you're on a highway with other traffic and have to adjust your speed, extra weight will consume more fuel for the adjustment. Unless you find a perfectly flat roadway then hills and elevation changes will use more energy in a heavier vehicle.

Negligible, ie, immeasurable difference due to hysteresis. If you don't believe me, go test it - remember to inflate your tires properly to acct for extra weight. Again I have to point out that people need to actually read what I write and not go off on a tangent...I stated before...'steady state'. The highway cycle the gov't has for determining mpg does not acct for elevation changes and has minimal acceleration changes.

Yes it's big.
Yes it's heavy.
No, it will not handle like a Camaro or a Mustang, Vette or Viper on a track.

Personally, I'm buying one because it's the first thing that years (since the '96 Viper GTS) that Dodge has come out with that's exciting. That's it, plain and simple.

Like the car or not, there must be something to it that is generating such a buzz in the auto world.

Oh excuse me for sounding like a teenager. I figured if I spoke in "old man speak" you wouldn't understand it. This conversation is clearly going nowhere and frankly I'm OK with that. The bottom line is there is no reason to hate on Dodge for the Hellcat. Its a muscle car. It does what muscle cars do... Big car, big motor, go fast in a straight line. Frankly all Challengers prior to the 392 left a bad taste in my mouth because they didn't represent the spirit of the muscle car the way they should have IMO because they were too underpowered. Yes they had the looks...but were light in the shorts. The new 6.2SC changes that in a big way. If Ford and Chevy come out with something comparable I will embrace it as much as anyone provided it remains in the spirit of a muscle car. Of course the newer vettes will spank the Hellcat in every category except pure HP numbers. That's a sports car not a muscle car so its comparing apples to stool samples. I really hope they do too. But I can guarantee when they do, I won't be out there crying about how it stacks up to the Hellcat because my butt is hurt. I will acknowledge it for what it is and sit back and wait for Dodge's, Ford's or Chevy's answer and ride the wave of HP wars II until it is destroyed by the gubmint or insurance companies again.

And comparing an all wheel drive car to 70mph to a tire smoking rwd car even with drag radials is silly. Of course his little high strung turbo, neck snapping hookup will beat you there if the driver is any good. What happens after 70? Cyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Oh wait, are we not allowed to drive over the speed limit?

...and that's all the reason you need.:headbang:

I do appreciate the interior room in the Challengers and like it as an option. I can't fit in the Mustangs comfortably at 6'3" and 265, and I don't consider myself to be much larger than the avg guy. I wouldn't own a GM product (except 'maybe' a Vette) so the Camaro isn't an option. My critiques are simply to those that seem to think the car is some kind of technical marvel or that it's rewriting the rules somehow...

so its comparing apples to stool samples.

This really deserves a visual......

Just for clarification, those illustrations of stool samples look more like his poop shitz versus her poop shitz.

shows how much, having a person that can drive a little anyway, makes a big difference 5 tenths...

I'd like to see the same test, head to head comparisons, with lame drivers in all the Brand X cars too...

I'm sure all the #'s would be total BS as claimed/advertised, In perfect conditions with professional drivers...

I can't believe the negativity against this car. Why are people so hell bent that it doesn't take a corner like a GT500? The car itself was designed to look good, be a comfortable car and do just about everything well.... No its not a track queen..that is why they still produce the Viper. If you took what makes this the best cruiser out there and destroy that to make it a track racing monster that can corner with the best of them you take away what makes it comfortable for a 500 mile road trip. Not to mention the cost you add to add things like an aluminum block etc....at 60k its not so far outside of affordable that nobody can get it and that is the point. If you want to corner carve the track then buy the viper or whatever you think does it best.

Me, I'll take the hellcat. I'll use it to get my groceries, drive to work or just plain enjoy driving to visit family COMFORTABLY. And maybe just maybe I'll take that on ramp a bit harder then I should...which is what 99% of the buyers are going to use it for....its called target market.

Who cares about a couple of tenths; the 1st driver had a bog old grin on his face after his test rides & isn't that what it's all about?

I think most people are missing this point RC....Glad you bought one and glad it exists. At least you'll be able to smile all the way from the stop light.

I don't,
I was pointing out that, the same results would be normal,
with amateur drivers in all the brand X/Camaro's & Mustangs etc. cars too...
I'm by far no hater !!

yep fun is what it's all about,
Seat of the pants power & getting what you want,
"driving it like you stole it, damn the rest, who cares what other people think"
they can bitch while they look at your 71 style retro tail-lites are zooming away...LOL....

Lots of gadgets, cool 8" center screen too....
