So... Like a dummy I left my house last week to go grab lunch with nice blue skies and the RR was left in the driveway with the hood up when the skies opened up and it poured rain... I didn't notice until it was too late but some water pooled in the intake and after the heat from the engine dissipated the water I'm stuck with these ugly stains on my intake... Any suggestions at all to get this out or mask it? I tried a de-greaser and brake cleaner both didn't help at all.

#1, can't help ya much with the stains
#2, use hardened stainless steel flat washers on aluminum
#3, don't go off and leave your car exposed! That's against the law....
:)

Send Phoenix Specialty coatings in Kentucky a e-mail
Send it to Leann, she can tell you what to do.

Some guys are getting them "clear-powder-coated"

I left my Hemi aluminum manifold "raw", wish I had gotten it celar-coat powdercoated.

When I get stains in my shorts, I use bleach. (I guess that's a different kind of stain.)

I'm wondering if a product for sinks and showers would work. Rust and scale remover. One of those oxy products.

I would think you have to watch the acid type products. (Wheel cleaners) for getting it on things under the hood that you don't want to. If it was off the car it wouldn't matter. Rinse, rinse, rinse...

Yeah,
That is why we need "word" from Leann at Phoenix specialty Coatings...the "Mistress of Metal"
She knows...!

HYRDGOON,
It looks to me like "HEAT" stains...am I correct in assuming that water had "pooled" and when you started it up, it boiled off?

It looks to me like someone took a heat torch and tempered the aluminum, so Im thinking it was "run" with the water on it.

Use a small brush like one of those that are a bit bigger than a tooth brush or even one of these can be used too.

Mothers mag wheel polish, brush it on real good let it sit for a few minutes then buff it off. Polish to the shine you want.

Essentially that's what happened... I didn't notice the pooling so when I ran the car the intake temp just baked the water in.... Not cool!

Hmm,

Okay, yeah, I can see where it "heated"

Wow!

So, Being PORUS, and aluminum I'm assuming the impurities in the water were absorbed into the heated Aluminum, boiled off and caused the "staining"

Honestly?
If worse comes to worse, replace the manifold BUT, I'd suggest shipping it to LeAnn at Phoenix Specialty Coatings in Kentucky (God's Country) and having it Clear Powder Coated...
That is what I would do.

pull it and use a spot sand blaster with aluminum oxide.ive done it many times with old as cast wheels.brings em right back to new.

Might try something like CLR and a toothbrush. I would assume the stain is impurities and minerals left from the evaporation. C calcium L lime R rust. Used it on other parts before. Never aluminum. Might try a small spot first.

I send my intakes to LeAnna. I have them power coated in "Alien Silver" which has a fresh new aluminum intake look to it. Go to the web site and look or ask for a picture of what the color looks like.

Sorry, I can not help on the cleaning of it part. I have never seen or noticed that before.

As a last resort, you could always do what Ma Mopar did with her aluminum intakes...paint them engine colour instead of leaving them bare like the Chevy engines. :)

Well I hope you can live with yourself . Hope Joey doesn't see this post he might have you wacked!

Does it really matter? I'm guessing the intake still works like it should. Maybe it'll burn off with use.

Well......when grown people start acting worse than 5 year old kids and start calling each other names and pissing all over everything and each other, yeah, they get whacked.....like they should have been when they were growing up.
