Best type of vehicle security system?

I like that idea. The thought of a dirt bag stealing my car makes me sick. Brakes to horn
....love it

Have you heard of the Ravelco System? It's basically a cutoff system for all the electrical components with a complex wiring approach they say can't be jumped. I'm considering it for my 68 GTX. They come with a male plug that must be inserted in order for the car to start. Supposedly no way to circumvent the system. I believe it's about $400 installed. I'm also considering adding a pit bull wheel boot. They have one that's easy on/off. That would help with the tow truck issue. I worry, as you do about this issue all the time. I agree with the other post on the coil wire option as well.

I'm s Sig Saur guy as the ultimate option that always works!

The Kill switch works, But I work on cars and trucks, and two seconds under the dash i find a little kill switch all the time. Try to hide it and make it easy to reach no fun. Now what i did was cut the start wire use a relay and activated it off my stereo, remove the face take it with you, car wont start and no radio to steal.

I once saw A battery cutoff that this guy had, wish I would have asked him more about it. He got it because his trucks Battery would go dead over night. It worked off of a key fob push the fob killed everything, and in an old car with the stock radio it wouldnt loose the presets now the clock would be another story.

I like the stereo idea.... with a boot lock to keep the tows off it... I have seen a siren was relayed in to the start circuit but it would be annoying... I have seen the battery switch at a marine supply store.... manset marine...

Could I wire an ignition coil into a remote switch so when they touch It they get 40,000 on a door handle so.they don't piss in the car... Will that fry anything on my electronics?

I want them not to be able to let go of it.....

The trouble is that if some old woman w/pace maker leans on it you'll never have to worry about owning anything EVER! I have seen a steering wheel lock/club with a reported 1,000,000 volts across the handles. But I think it was pulled from the market too.

How about just not parking it where there might be a risk of it being stolen? Or if it home park it in the garage? I do like the Rotor trick or the Coil wire removal/swap trick but then in my Ol'*** way...CRS...I would forget it all together. Best bet though is what I have mentioned above. Just don't put yourself in a position to have it stolen...Sig, Glock, 1911???? A Large Caliber Hand Gun for me:sideways tongue:

I wish Lojack was more affordable. I would think more people would use their services if they were.

The best one is the one I have. Place the engine next to the car in the garage. Lol

I will have a hidden battery cut off and an audible alarm. Noise is a pretty good deterrent.

My 9mm will take care of the rest.

As you can see different people have very different ideas about how to keep a classic vehicle or any vehicle for that matter from being stolen. Basically it really depends how much the vehicle is worth to you vs what you are willing to spend and or do to keep it from being taken away by thieves.
There are things you can do your self and things you can have done. Basically the whole idea is to be alerted when someone tries to get into the car or into the engine compartment and or trunk where the battery might be...if they can cut off the electrical supply from the battery most alarm systems will be rendered useless.
Like I said the first thing you want to happen is the the alarm system to make a lot of noise (siren, horn or some sort of very loud audio device)so it will alert anyone around the vehicle that someone unauthorized has tried or is trying to gain access to the vehicle and if possible have some way to alert you via a pager or cell phone message or alert of some kind ( an alarm's audio system going off will not do you any good if no one is around to hear it).
The second thing you want to happen is to slow the process down of getting the car started if that is the thief's goal, and that can be done by some of the things mentioned above, cut off switches for ignition or fuel pumps, etc.......and keep in mind depending on the the situation where the vehicle is parked some thieves simply tow the vehicle away.
A third thing that can be done is to have some sort of vehicle tracking system installed. Some of these will automatically be activated when the vehicle is moved for any reason including when the owner moves the car via a pager, cell phone text message, etc......and others can be activated after the car is stolen remotely after the owner calls a tracking center.
So best thing to do is go up a local auto accessories retailer that specializes in vehicle alarms or search the internet for vehicle alarms, etc.......to see what the options are and what they cost.

Hope this helps and good luck

Just had the Revelco disabler system installed on my 63 330 in my driveway this weekend. 4.5 hours install!!!.

They cut the harness apart add dummy wires into it to confuse potential thiefs and also disable ignition, starter, electric fuel pump circuits. Then they seal it all back so it looks original. It would take forever to find the actual jumped out wiring. I can see why no one has ever defeated it (so they say).

It is pricey ($500) MA area
