I know a guy selling 2 4 speeds and if im not mistaken there '70 or older, ( I think ) because there's only one mounting pad for a shifter. I have a '74 Satty with a 3 speed manual trans and was thinking of changing it to a 4 speed. Will they still work? Also i think i read that the speedo cable hook up is different. I dont want this to be a half arsed project on my car. Was looking for it to be a direct bolt in with no problems and dont want to "rig" anything. Thanks for any advise.

You will have to verify if... Output shafts have the same spline count? shifter mounting pad is the same distance from the rear of the bell housing? And over all length. And I'm not sure about the throw out bearing fork. Check with Brewer's their always glad to help.

70 and later should have 2 mounting pads for the shifter on the tail shaft

69 and earlier only have the one B body mounting location because E bodies didn't exist until 70.

In 71 B bodies had the same shifter mounting location as E's so your 74 B body would take the same shifter rods as the E bodies i.e. to the rear of the tail shaft.

You will need the 70 and later style tail shaft because you would need the rear shifter mounting pad.

I have a 71 also , I swapped out the auto and put in a 4 speed , the bell housing , fly wheel and 4 speed were out of a 69 RR , had Brewer's balanced my fly wheel cuz my 440 was external balanced ,
Brewer's said it wouldn't work because of the rear trany mount location, but my rear mount was a spool mount and all we had to do is bolt the spool to the 69 trany backwards , (it then lined right up) from there everything was the same ,
note >>> that the 69 tranny only has the forward shifter location so it only works with the bench or buddy seat location
good luck

i thoght the B's used the foward mounting location and the E's used the rear for mounting the shifter

I just went through part of this research- 71-74 could be either mount as stated earlier.

Rear mount if console or buckets and no console or buddy seat.

Front mount if bench seat or buckets and buddy seat.

Trans hump is also different as are shift rods.

On the Brewers site, the pic of the front mount shifter mount is crazy long.

Also as stated earlier, measure the mount because A body (and F body) trans (same trans, different tail shaft) also only had one mount.
