Not me, the GTX!

The motor that came with the car is basically an unknown quantity to me. I have a rebuild sheet that came with the car dated in 2000. Although, the only milage I can verify is from 2004 on, it is still 14 yrs old, with a deep knock down inside until it warms up.

So a member of our MOPAR club let it be known that he has a freshly built .040 over 440 that dynos at 472 hp and 500 lb/ft of torque available for sale..

It specs out as follows:
1969 440 block .040 over oil system mods suitable for 700 hp, hone mains,
ARP studs, billet rear main with Viton seal, broach & honed lifter bores
brass freeze plugs, blueprinted melling high volume oil pump, new oil pick
up, new 6 quart pan windage tray, new 5140 rods with 7/16 rod bolts(Hemi
size) KB hypereutectic pistons, speed pro rings file fit, new balancer, all
balanced

Heads & cam: Steel 906 fully ported heads, S/S 2:14 - 1:81 valves, triple
comp springs and retainers, comp hydraulic roller cam 230-236 @ .050, lift
541-537, howard hydraulic roller lifters, howard billet timing chain with
Torrington bearing and can button, Mnaton custom push rods, 440 source full
roller rockers 1.5 ratio with 4340 shafts all new parts except used heads

Ignition: billet petronics dist plug and play ( my 6AL MSD and distributor system will be used instead )

New Edelbrook RPM manifold with 780 Holly
New aluminum water pump & housing with 160 stat

I will be taking the "X" to his shop so they can do the swap as I don't have any space to do this kind of work. I will be detailing the engine compartment to get rid of the black goo that is all over the inside of the compartment. I will order my QQ-1 blue paint in rattle cans so I can do this myself while it is at his shop.

Hopefully, this will all be done in 2 weeks...

Pictures of progress will be in this thread as we go along..

I love a good heart surgery or transplant. It does my heart good to hear of that. I'll bet she'll be climbing mountains in no time - little oxygen needed - mostly just GAS. :angel10:

Well, today is the day we head off to the car doc! We had to wait for them to finish a project before there was room for our car..

Jeff

Progress....

Here are a few pics of work to date. Engine is out and the bay is cleaned out. Today, detail clean around the seams, scuff, clean and spray QQ-1 blue to match the outside!

Nice job on the engine compartment cleanup. What method/material did you use?

Next Step...

Finished!

It turned out great! I am stunned by the paint match..

To get the goo off, I used Goof-Off. Nasty stuff. I used a respirator and multiple pair of gloves.

Here are the latest pics and a pic of the new "Heart" for the GTX....

Here is the finished engine bay; still with the masking on the fenders

This shows the match between the fender and the inside of the bay

And this is the new 'Heart" The carb was out getting dialed in by a former Holley carb expert. According to the mechanic doing the work on the car, that guy has forgotten more about carbs than most of us know!

Now we wait until some of the bits & pieces that we needed after tear down arrive next week. Shooting for pick up on Friday next!

Jeff

Oh well,

We didn't quite make Friday, but we picked it up on Saturday morning!

Oh wow, what a difference...

Here is a pic of the almost finished project. Still need to pick up my new valve covers from the powder coater and install those. Then it goes back to get the torque strap installed.

After what it looked like in the engine bay before, I am really pleased with how it came out.

Now I will open the hood more often!

Very nice - a great project that looks nice AND makes your right foot happy!

Congrats - looks great!

Jeff,
Way to go on a quick turnaround timeframe. What a nice improvement visually, how's the new gas peddle?

Not so quick..

The total time for the project was almost 2 weeks. The motor had already been built. I needed 2 days to strip and paint the engine bay and they took the balance of time to install, test and check the new motor..

As far as the right foot goes... OH WOW! When I drove it home ( about 50mi ) there was a point at which I had a clear run and rolled into the power at 75mph and in a blink and a half I was passing through 95 and headed to the century mark!! I still need to break it in though..

Jeff

The torque curve is almost flat from 3k to 5500 with 495 - 501 ft/lbs and it really shows.

Here are the dyno charts:
