I thought K-Mart buying Sears and AOL buying Time/Warner were screwy deals.

What do you Canadians think about this?

..and yes, I know it's an attempt at tax evasion.

Oh great, here comes a maple flavored whopper....

In other words, Tim Horton bent over to take the Burger King's whopper.

Yeah, a tax dodge by 3G Capital, the owner of BK.
Honestly, I don't see how this will help Timmie's get deeper into the US market, as they once tried this with Wendy's from 1995 to 2006 and that didn't really work out.

Now, I'm probably in the vast minority here in Canada, but IMO their coffee isn't all that great, I prefer Mickey D's, and Timmie's doughnuts have gone down hill a lot. I'm lucky to have a couple of standalone doughnut shops around, and their doughnuts are far superior to what one can get at Timmie's.

X2...Mickey D's has much better coffee, IMO

If finding the dognuts are better at the independent stores rather than the chains.

I am really not sure what to make about it yet.... It is an obvious step to tax evasion/diversion which puts that tax money into Canada so I guess that's good for us... The report I was listening to also stated it was an attemt for BK to gather info on becoming successful again from how dynamic Timmies is....

I'm not a coffee drinker and onlt indulge in a donut (or 5) once or twice a year so it won't affect me whatsoever

I couldn't agree more. I found a little independent donut shop where I live called Darren's Donuts, and they make the best donuts I've ever eaten (and I consider myself a semi-professional donut expert). The owner is a real friendly guy who seems to know most of the people in town.

Highest corp tax rate in world......but how many loopholes are there? Small businesses are the ones hurting the worse from all the regulation and after what our president said about businesses leaving for the tax break are unpatriotic.....well, I hope they all leave! Maybe we can flush the bad policies and bad apples and start with a clean slate. I know this is on the hem line of politics and hope it doesn't get any deeper. It's a shame that large businesses are so affected by politics.

My oldest sister mangaed a Dunkin's for a while

Krispy Cream is far better for donuts, than Dunkin's, for mass produced cellulite producers...LOL

I don't really ever get donuts anymore, I do love an old fashion/buttermilk, bear-claws or apple-fritters....

I don't really remember ever even eating at a Tim Horton's, in my travels thru Canada,
I will usually always make my own coffee too, especially when I was on the road racing/traveling,
I usually had my trailer, with living quarters/kitchenette, so I had my own coffee & coffer maker/percolator pot...

But McDonalds had some good house coffee {Dark French Roast IIRC},
but the local 7-11's convenience stores really had some far better brewed coffees,
sometimes even when they had fresh donuts, from a little local shop, were much better too... IMHFO

Just thought I'd share that little nothing...

In the overall scheme of things, I kind of really don't care about BK trying to make a better bottom line,
for their investors/stock holders...
Mainly because of the high corporate taxes we now have here in the USA, them going to Canada to get more profit,
or I don't know enough about Tim Horton's really, to comment on their product or whether it's a good buy or not...

If it makes the company more money or the investors/stock holders {remember those people} more dividends,
honestly that's freaken' great, it's capitalism/free enterprise system working, the way it's intended to...

I'm personally all for it, anyway to make a better bottom line, is what business is all about,
even if it means or a way of paying less US taxes, you have to make a decent profit/bottom line
or you won't be in business or last very long or sell many shares/get any investors for very long either...

I do hope they create some more jobs {especially for the youth or elderly}
& stimulate the economy in what ever area they are in thou...

more business is a good thing, even across borders

Burger King HAD my favorite burger...of the fast foods. I will purposely not stop there again. As a proud U.S. citizen and retired Sailor, I will continue to pay (more than) my fare share of taxes to the United States.

If they have your favorite burger, why deprive yourself? Just mail an extra buck or two to the government each month to make up the difference. :)

As for the OPs question of "What do you Canadians think about this?", I don't think I'll notice the difference. It's not really outstandingly new. For example, this same Tim Horton's chain was owned by Wendy's from 1995 to 2006 and I don't think people could tell when they came in or left the scene...
