71-74 Rallye Cluster Restoration

Iv'e been restoring the cluster for my dash and thought I would share with you how I duplicated the silver trim. I used an enamel paint pen (Testors brand). Its worked out really great, and being enamel it does not come off. I have to admit that it is not exactly the same as the factory, because they had a finish that looked exactly like chrome. But its pretty close and because I had to redo the whole lot, there is none of the original finish to compare it to. Anyway, I thought I would share some pictures.

I did some with a Sharpie brand paint pen and it came out similar.

I like the enamel idea better, so I guess I'll try to track down a Testors pen.

Looks good Jason.
I used the Testors one as well but I'm not sure if it was enamel, I'll have to check that.
I say that because I also used it on my side markers and had to redo do those once already.

Yes it's definitely enamel. I dare say that an acrylic type is available as well but mine is enamel. Seems to have bonded really well.

I was looking at Alclad brand chrome paint picked from a post by Smb03 and it came in 1oz bottles
but will add this info to my book and look at it as well when I am ready

That looks great! I remember having hands steady enough to do that stuff. Now if you just had some new emblems to put on the outside, say like a NOS one for the hood and a really nice SE for the top......

Haha, very good. Yes those things will enhance my build. If I could only get some paint on the body of my car. All in good time I guess. These cars are just one enjoyable step at a time.

I've used those pens for years.

They work great! Like you said, not 100% correct, but unless you're looking for show quality, it's great.

They are so easy to use, and very easy to control the flow so it comes out nice and smooth and even.

That looks good man!!!!

I remember doing all that. Another suggestion for the silver is Krylon Silver leafing pen, its what I used with good results. Also if you are doing the needles on the gauges, Krylon Bright's Fluorescent orange works well too!
