Hey guys, I was hoping for some advice on my 318 to 440 swap in my 1969 Satellite. The 440 is a 74 block if it matters. I am also keeping it automatic. I read through some posts and couldn't find an answer. Can I use my 318 radiator with the 440 or am I better off with a new larger radiator. I am also confused about getting a radiator with proper hose locations. Thanks for the help.

take a look at champion radiators .com.shows many diff options with inlet and outlet size, which side they are on,and core sizes.prices are great as well.

I used my original 318 rad but had it triple cored. The '68 440 inlet and outlet matched ok. Also I installed a shroud with a 180 stat and the car runs cool and looks original.

Did your car come with A/C? If so, it probably is already a three core. I used the original radiator that came with my 318 car, I just had the radiator shop move the inlet to match how it would've been on a big block when they redid it. I think the only other difference is that the outlet is a little smaller diameter on the bottom hose. So I had to use a flex hose for the bottom hose to have a hose that is two different diameters on each end.

I wouldnt buy a champion radiator they are crap.
Try to find a oem BB radiator and make sure you can install a fan shroud, you`ll need it with the 440!

Thank you guys for all of the input. I think I will check about having my radiator re-cored to a 3 row and have outlets changed if needed. The car did not come with A/C. It is in nice shape and seems to be working fine with my 318.

The main thing that made me wonder about the radiator is that it already looks small for the 318 and I thought there was not much chance it would cool a 440. I think it is original but not sure. It looks to be about 2 inches thick by 19 inches wide by 22 inches tall.

The ones they put in 318 AC cars (at least mine anyway) were 26" wide and three core same as a big block - only difference being the bottom hose outlet is a little smaller diameter (but not enough to make a difference in cooling I've found). So yeah, yours is probably a 22" wide one and might not cut the mustard for a 440.
