Hey everyone, Im new to this forum and restoring cars, this is a first for me :p I've worked on many stock cars before but I've never had to make something look pretty... I just bought a pretty rough 1971 Charger Super Bee and am planning on doing a completely custom, stock car styled build. I will be making custom floor, interior door panels, dash, front and rear firewalls all from tin and they will be left bare, so I am not too concerned about keeping any of those original pieces. The floor is honestly almost rusted out entirely, the frame has rust, and the rear quaters have rust in the wheel wells, but honestly almost everything else is straight and good.

Anyway.. Im just wondering how much damage will be done if i get the entire striped car sandblasted... Like will body weaken and twist, so, for example, the doors won't align? I really want to get it blasted down to see what I'm working with but I'm just scared of ruining the straight lines and fitments... Any comments on this?

Thanks

hi and welcome to the site ,start a thread on your charger build :headbang:

Hey, I know people in Saskatoon... :) Welcome, nice to have you here. :wav:

If you search on here you'll find a lot of people who started with stripped down media blasted chassis. It's really the way to go if you want to start from scratch.

Hey. Greetings from just North of you in Prince Albert. I saw that car on Kijiji and am glad to see it is going to someone who wants to do it up right. I'm doing a 71 Satellite (making a Road Runner Tribute) and will follow your progress closely. Keep us posted.

dustless media blasting is better on your cosmetic parts ( hood, fenders, doors, ect ),,,,,,sand blasting is only safe on inside jambs, structural parts. sand builds heat and warps the panels, my advice is only use someone that is experienced at blasting. good luck bud

My 64 was blasted before I bought it. Destroyed the roof and both quarters. I wouldn't do any large panels. Just use paint stripper and save yourself a lot of head banging in the end. Blast away at jams and things but nothing flat
