I have a line on an original 67 Charger 440 (XP29L Vin). The body and paint are in great shape, little to no rust (floor pans and trunk are orig with only light surface rust in some patches. frame rails look good), all interior is present (faded but in good condition) but no motor or trans.

The car is not near me to go look at, so I'm trying to see if it's in the ballpark before I drive a ways to go see it. Currently waiting on owner to send fender tag info.

Any idea of value?

so, if car is not near you to look at, how can you say floors & trunk are in good shape with any sort of certainty? One persons view of good floors may be totally different than someone elses.

Pics are gonna have to be seen here, one cannot tell anything without pics. The 67 is hardest to restore, just the electrical system alone can run up to $2k to get working properly. Dash lighting, gauges, and rotating headlight system is common to not work. Interior parts are un-obtainable, and 67 specific parts are almost non-existent. (the electrical on a 67 is not interchangeable with the 66, complete different system)

I have some parts, including new relays for headlights, and dash power pack rebuild service here, plus contacts for other parts & services.

Is this the car in Georgia that I have been seeing?

If you pass on it Im interested.

If it is YELLOW and out of California I have seen it in person and it is a factory yellow with black vinyl top car that will need a roof. I passed on it because it had a 78 motor and trans in it and the guy seemed a bit shady. I could have found a date coded 440 but deep down I wasnt gonna spend my money on one that didnt have the original motor or atleast come with it. Just me.

If it is red with a black vinyl top out of california I last seen the car 15 years ago and it was very complete but needed a total restoration.

If it is turquoise and out of Arizona then the car is priced at 15,000 which I feel is out of the ballpark for a car that needs a complete restoration and is not a running driving vehicle and I have not seen that one in person.

For only 528 or so made (67 440 cars xp29L) i found that there are a lot of them that pop up.

I also found that most of them i have actually seen in for whatever reason have the buddy seat and center console delete.

Especially the air conditioner cars.

Personally I dont like this as it is one of the 66/67 chargers best features in my opinion.

There is a guy that has one in the east that advertises it from time to time I forget his name he is on 66/67 charger forum it is a complete xp29L car and he is very very honest about it having rust and been hit hard front, requiring a new radiator support and I believe fender apron. He had it priced very low, however.

I ended up with a non factory 440 car but a very nice 67 charger nonetheless

good luck hope I helped

didn't he say car does not have motor or trans?

He may have and I may have over looked that. Im on a mobile application that is very cumbursome. I was only trying to help the fellow out. By the way i bought some relays off you from EBAY I believe thanks for producing them if it was/is you.

take care.

that's the one... you're correct obviously can't know for sure about total rust condition without seeing in person. The seller sent me some additional pics and it looks pretty solid. I was only trying to guage general value as I'm not so versed in the 1st gen chargers, 1 thing that seems appearant is that sftermarket parts are near non-existant for interior/exterior parts, so I liked that the exterior seems complete and the interior is all there according to the seller (no in car at moment, so we'll have to see condition.

The price seems good, but there have also been several complete cars for sale for relatively low dollars in FL. But none were 440 cars

I have seen the car...it's basically a stripped shell and looks like a decent body. I'm not crazy about the hood either. I saw the price, seems fair, but yer gonna have a very large puzzle to put back together. If you do get the car, be prepared for some $$ to shell out for electrical. Exterior panels are not available, however, Coronet from the doors forward will work and are more plentiful. Interior pieces are not made except for carpet kits and seat material. Don't plan on driving it for a few years. Maybe consider one that is already a driver?

Factory 440 cars are rare, but everyone seem to put one in a 66 or 67 Charger anyway. I would consider a driver as opposed to a puzzle, but it's your $$

Having done the interior in my 66 Charger. I can tell you that the jigsaw puzzle that is a first gen Charger is not fun. I paid 7k for mine and people thought i paid too much. It did have the headlamps and dash lighting in working order as they had been repaired. as well as a ton of paperwork in terms of repairs and maintenance. I drive the car all over the Tampa Bay area. I dont know what the price is on the one you are looking at. But you can use mine as a gauge on price. It's the only locked thread in the 66-67 forum. So it should be easy to find. LOL

No rust, solid body and factory motor and trans I'd say its 'worth' in the neighborhood of 15 to 20k in needs restored condition. 25 to 30k in running condition and decent shape. Really depends on a whole bunch of things but the original 440 cars arent that easy to come by. Unfortunately, the 66/67 first gen chargers also arent nearly as popular as the later years, which really hinders their potential.

Without factory motor and trans youre looking at 8 to 10k, tops.

Oh, and i have the factory 440/727 out of our 67 440 charger, but it aint on the block.

Post some pics Scott, we would love to see it!

I'm surprised no one has started the "these are not worth much, because..." line yet.

Bottom line is that it's factory 440 equipped B body, with a bonus of a somewhat easy to find "original" engine.

I'll throw my hat in and say I'm also interested if the OP passes.

Sorry, I thought this thread was dead.... I am amazed how cheaply these first gen chargers can be had for. I personally love the lines and the interiors are my favorite of all the 66 and up mopars. I guess it's chalked up to expensive or non existent replacement parts, but still, seems like a great value.

All that said, I'm realizing that my next purchase needs to be a motor for my Roadrunner, so I have set aside the dream of owning one...for now.

YY1 she's all yours.

Sorry, It was only a figure of speech. The car is not mine, so there is no line. Have at it! I do appreciate that you all would be so considerate as to first come first serve.

The car was on CL in north georgia last I looked

Thanks my man. I had thought maybe you were in contact with the owner and had that information. I have had no success locating the car or the ad on craigslist in NWGA
