Just acquired a 68' Road Runner...I would like to install the "proper" exhaust tips.

Do the exhaust tips fit over the exhaust pipe, or into the exhaust pipe ? What diameter do I measure the ID or OD ??

Are hanger kits necessary ??

Thanks !!!

They go over the pipe,so you would need to know the OD diameter on the tail pipe and ID for Exhaust tip!
Hangers really help keep less strain on the system as a whole so i would use them.
Usually one behind the muffler and one on the tail pipe and then one for the tips!
I seen a lot of the tips w/o a support on them and welded but they are not light!

Not ALL 68 Road Runners had factory chrome tips. Some came with plain downturn pipes.

At least in 1970, California cars had the downturned pipes to limit noise. LOL, I wonder how long THAT lasted.

Accurate Exhaust are good people. See here for tips: http://www.accurateltd.com/B-body-Tips_c_117.html

Although originals were chromed steel, I would highly recommend stainless so they don't rust and look like crap in a few months...

Sonny would be very surprised if there was a 68 RoadRunner with factory chrome tips!!! :eusa_pray:
I may be wrong but I owned a few and purchased 2 new....I have NEVER (back in the day) seen one with the "option". ( I owned the strip-0 post & and the other, hard top with chrome strip on rockers...)

all had turned down tips....~----like this

If you want to be period correct.

Hi Sonny,
I had a 68 Hemi 4-spd. Road Runner that came from the factory with the oval chrome tips--someone told me back then that the chrome tips were only on hemi cars--don't know if there's a bit of truth in that. Bob
