I recognized the car but don't know who owned it. HMP is a neat track if you like 1/8 mile racing (I don't) but it has a real short shut off and it goes straight out onto a main road so it has to have a solid barrier as a last line of safety for that and looks like he made it all the way to it.

that sucks, my he rest in peace

HOLY COW!

Being a 1/8th mile track and having technical difficulties, does not leave the driver with much time to react.
Seems his Parachute and braking system malfunctioned.
The article says: "The driver of a 1967 Camaro drove off the end of the 1/8 mile drag strip, crashed through some barriers and then hit the wall"
Perhaps the barriers were weak? I'd like to think the "Barriers" would be able to withstand a major crash like that.

It looks like the car hit "forward-on-impact"
God Bless...

Yes, Pops....
God Bless his family!

Could have been any one of us....
Perhaps "NHRA Safety" will look into this incident.
I think it is a "given"...an investigation will take place.

RIP. Need more detail.

By the looks of that car, I would say the throttle stuck. Poor guy. I hope he didn't suffer long.

It can happen to anyone, we racers know the risks. Pray the family can survive the loss.
