So I bought a repro engine harness for my non-electronic ignition 318 engine in my 71 Charger HU112E. It came with a blue plug that my old harness didn't have. It's near the temperature sending unit plug. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it's for?

The car is currently at a friend's garage getting new floorpans. I'll snap a pic when it comes home later this week.

Here is the blue plug. Flat female spade type.

Maybe a carb solenoid??

Interesting ideas. I'll get a test light and see if it's constant hot or only when running.

yes, definitelly is hot... that's part of the RUN circuit. It seems to be spliced from blue wire to brush alt field

Blue is always hot with key on and in that location is usually choke thermostat, but 71's CT were not electric. Idle solenoid makes sense as well.

As mentioned, appears to be ign. run, split off the alternator field supply. Though not original to ’71, could be used for choke assist or aftermarket choke and or idle speed solenoid if so equipped. Would not be anything related to A/C, Compressor wire was separate from engine harness that year and would not be ign. run. Just not a real accurate reproduction for your particular car, not uncommon for reproduction harnesses. If you have no use for it, tape it up or unwrap the section to the alternator and remove it, rewrap.

This is part of a government regulation that did not take effect to test brakes on cars.
