Oil Pan Blues...

if its the studded bolt that holds the oil pickup it will not get you anything to not wait on the bolt...you'll need it.

For the actual install, absolutely.

But it did gain me some time to discover that the Charlie's oil pickup won't work. The end of the tube that enters the block (with the O ring) is too long to actually seat, and the angle of the pickup is entirely wrong.

Luckily I had the new Milodon pickup in hand, and it seems to work perfectly. It's also a much nicer looking piece, which surprised me. The Charlie's pickup arrived with surface rust, did not include a new O ring, and as I mentioned, wouldn't even seat in the block. Odd.

Anyhow, onward and upward (once I get my main cap stud!)

Send that pick up back to S&P and tell them to get the their **** right......that pan and pick up isn't cheap!!!!

that pickup looks like crap actually...i'd send it back and get a refund for it...terrible

i used the charlies pan an my pick up tube looked alot better than that one. your paying over $400 bucks for a pan make it right.

This Charlie's pan is, so far, pretty disappointing. There's no baffling in the sump, and the sump really seems oddly tiny. It could have easily been 2 or more inches longer, toward the rear of the motor?

Does anyone know the supposed capacity of the Charlie's pan? If I measure to the same "level" from the pan rail as the factory pan, it's 4 quarts. Plus the tiny MOPAR filter, that just doesn't seem good to me?

It should be 6 quarts, 5 in the pan, 1 for the filter if memory serves correct. Also if you have the factory k frame, it can not go back any further or it will hit the center link or forward as it will hit the k frame. Not sure why your not liking the pan??? It's aluminum and helps dissipate the heat, built very nicely with thick pan rails.

It just seems small to me; and the angle of the little tube for the dipstick is a little aggravating. Maybe I'm just bein' cranky! I guess with my aftermarket K frame, I've got the flexibility to add some capacity later, if I need it. Hmm..

Well, thanks to a mix up with my parts supplier, I now have an installed engine with the Charlie's pan, AND the Milodon pan sitting in a box. I'll compare them later today. Thanfully, with the RMS K frame in place, I can pull the pan from the bottom, if I want to swap 'em. There is some additional baffling in the milodon pan (around the 4 edges) that isn't present from on the Charlies pan, but it lacks the full oil control of the milodon "road race" pan that I had on my 440. Fascinating!

what master cylinder and firewall adapter is that?

I used the 5.7 Milodon pan and pickup with my 6.4/NAG1. I'm also using a modified stock suspension and stock K-frame, though.

That NAG1 is a nice trans - I just couldn't bring myself to making it fit in my Charger! Your car is so... CLEAN on the bottom. This is why I don't post many pictures of the underside of my '66!

Making it fit correctly, isn't as big a deal as most think. Just lots of planning, very little body mods, some fabbing, and patience. Custom built headers are a must.

Ok, I think at the first oil change on this car, I'm swapping the charlies pan off the car, and going to the milodon. The latest irritation is trying to use the dipstick - the angle that it takes from the block is so acute that getting the dipstick in is ridiculously difficult, and pulling it out seems to scrape most of the oil back off the thing.

The Charlies new hemi pan is a waste of money, I think. I think I'll even mention that in my eBay ad when I try to sell this junk off.

Whom ever designed/put the drain-plug on the back of the Milodon pan's sump, is a jackass. The center link does hit it. Had I known before powder coating and installing the engine/k-frame, I'd have moved it.
