Waking up the beast

As an added bonus, I just weighed the two setups. The single carb setup is 11.8 pounds less than the dual quads.

New throttle cable was just installed. Going to have the intake milled tomorrow. Then heading up to watch the big MOPAR race at LVD. then back home to install everything and maybe make a couple passes at Island on Sunday morning.

Intake is milled and installed. Waiting on a couple of fittings for the fuel line and hopefully on to Island Friday night for a test before heading down to Atco on Sunday for a race.

that's a great start Bobtile congrats

a spare power-valve rated at about 1/2 of what you vacuum @ idle is,
example 10in. vacuum use a 5.0 - 5.5 Power-valve or 12in. use a 6.0 - 6.5, I like to side on the fat side .5 up from 1/2
{or block it off & go up about 3-4 jet sizes, not really recommend if your going to drive it on the street much}

I'd also suggest that you or anyone doing this type of deal, especially for track use & different weather or elevation conditions,
get some assorted accel. discharge pump nozzles {squiters} & assorted accel. pump cams too,
Nozzles a couple sizes up & down on the nozzles {hollow screws too, better flow} & a selection of different colored accelerator pump cams...

maybe a 50cc Accel. pump kit cam, pump, diaphragm & arm for the front bowl
& jett extensions & a appr. style float for the rear bowl, so it won't starve for fuel on hard launches...

what metering blocks does the Holley 850DP have now ?
that might be something to look into also,
a good set of billet metering blocks with adj. emulsion & air bleeds...
I Like/prefer Quickfuel stuff, but there are allot of them to choose from now...

you know I'm going to say it too...
I'd highly suggest you get a book or DVD on tuning Holley style carbs...
even watch some of the tuning tips on youtube or on Holley's ewebsite
But you know that already thou...

have fun & good luck

need to make a clean hard pass after you get it close, make a hard run shut it down clean & don't drive or idle around
so you'll get a good/accurate plug reading to see where you are.. will help with the jetting for wherever your racing that day

Thanks Budnicks. I know what to look for with the plugs but I do have a question about shutdown. I have a reverse pattern mvb with no free neutral. Can I shut the car down in gear and coast without destroying anything?

you have to see my jet collection Bobtile? 8 of each jet size. You jumped the gun. You should have bought BLP jets. Much better and more accurate.

not 100% sure on that one, I don't want to tell you something that's wrong,
I've always had a forward pattern Valve-body neutral was easy peasy, I never had that issue
a more knowledgeable trans-guys might be able to give you a better answer,
I've heard the trans can still turn after like 60mph, not sure if that's an ol' wives tale or what,
it won't hurt the engine thou...
maybe just shut it down after you've slowed to like 40-50ish, should be relatively safe then,
just don't idle around after the run, so you get a better/accurate look at the plugs...

Put a four speed trans in it and then just knock it into Neutral like 440kilmartin...
Shut it off and coast to a safe place to take out a few plugs
The auto will still be turning DRY if you shut it off in gear. Don't think that's a good thing.

I didn't know you had a jet collection too. I never saw the hanger at your house.

Why wouldn't the pump still be turning?

If the crankshaft isn't tuning, then the front pump won't be turning...

The jets are behind the pool.

I'm trying to talk to my friends right now.

Get a free nuetral valvebody and be a real drag racer.

If I was a real drag racer, I'd be beating you. You don't want that do you?

That's a good point.

Thanks. I have bungs in place. You told me it should be close, but my engine is sensitive, much like myself.
