I keep reading different things and seeing contradicting posts. My dads are metal. Mine is plastic with mopar and time Warner stamps. I hear repro's are metal. I hear repro's are plastic. I've searched the web for a non refutable answer but can not find one. Seems everybody has their opinion but I would like to know the truth. Maybe see it in black and white from Chrysler somewhere. Maybe they made both? Anybody out there know the REAL story?? Thanks.

I bought one on Ebay claiming to be NOS. It's plastic and unpainted. It has the Pentastar and P/N 3443513.

Originals are molded yellow plastic painted. Repops are metal sadly lacking in detail.

you really need to see it in writing? lol
its not rocket science to figure out..
you have both parts,pull them out and
look at the parts closely and you can easily tell on your own which is the repop.

the metal one i have has no embossed numbers or writing cast into it
and the stud was crooked it came in a plastic bag = repop pos
the nos plastic one that i have that came out of the blue/white chysler/mopar box
has all those features and the stud is straight on.
plastic=real
metal=fake
if you find on the internet someone telling you anything different,
they are full of crap..

Yes. I need to see something other than everyone's opinion. Not saying you are wrong. I just want to see it for myself. The fact that the one from 1971 is so detailed is why it makes me suspicious. Mine has a MoPar stamp on the back and everything. But who says the real bird was that detailed, it was the 70's. And I seem to be able to find the yellow ones cheap and easy. Anyone who has the ability to repop a bird head can reproduce a cardboard box with whatever graphics they want. Again. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying me seeing it in black and white will leave no doubt. And when I speak about something I like to know for a fact what I'm talking about. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, it's more than opinion. I happen to OWN a survivor 71 440+6 road runner and I've studied these cars (71 runners specifically) for over 20 years. I also BOUGHT a repop METAL birds head from Year One about 20 years ago and I OWN several NOS PLASTIC bird heads (that are painted).
If you don't want to listen to experience, good luck finding factory documentation. I'm fairly certain the manufacture of these were outsourced and you will not find factory engineering documents (I have quite a few documents and this is not in them).
And have you ever looked at other 71 parts? Most of them have a factory part number on them (the detail you're questioning)

Everybody doesn't have to get so uptight. I'm just saying that I want to see it. The same way you are telling me they are plastic is the same way another person is telling me they were metal. They have multiple roadrunners and have had them for more than 30 years. They also know A LOT about MoPars. So that is why I am not taking it lightly either way. I've also searched the web and seen people argue passionately about it being metal. I don't know. I'm not claiming to know anything. That's why I want to see it. I never said you were wrong. I'm just asking if anyone knows a book or has a link to a Chrysler page that says what it's made of. That's all. I apologize if I am offending anyone. I just want to see it with my own eyes. And there seems to be no documented proof either way. That is what bothers me. It has to be somewhere.

The most accurate proof of what is assembly line correct is typically documented survivor vehicles. Best of luck with our search. You've chosen a very appropriate user name.

My understanding is the plastic with, The part number is the real deal. No mopar part number, is not original. I cant help you with and type of documentation about that, if you find some please share it with us.

Part number not only on the back, but Warner Bros. Seven Arts on the bottom lip...

I don't have an opinion on this topic, "just the facts". The OE part is plastic. Butterscotch & flypaper are 100 % correct. I worked on these cars back in the early 70's. Anybody that did will tell you the same.

I'd like to know where my Coronet was sold and who the PO's were too. Not gonna happen. WS23L9A283676

I'm lost on what you meant by that. Sounds like you got issues. If your just going to run it then find another thread. Try some breathing exercises or something.

Unfortunately that's not the case lol. He said metal. I have to say I am leaning toward the plastic a little more now as I've searched more.

Lol

Whoever told you it's metal, does not know what they're talking about. Period.

Common sense will tell you that it's the plastic ones that have a part number. Everything has to have a part number. The factory didn't call a supplier and say "Hey, give us 1000 more Road Runner heads", they ordered the part numbers and they sold by a part number.

Now that one is arguable. Everything has a part number, but that doesn't mean it's stamped with it.
