Thoughts on paint colors...original vs custom

IMOP keep it stock looking . 16-18 rims and tires look really bad on most of these cars because theres NOTHING modern about them . no madder how you modify the suspension itll handle like it was designed too (if you want a Zo6 modern tech go buy one ) . like trying to put lipstick on a pig. like the new term RESOMOD hahahahahahahahahahahaha

I do not see anything wrong with "restomod" cars. Not that the OP is going that direction. He was only referring to the color I believe. IMHFO that beautiful classic is anything but a pig!

I've gone both ways, and it depended on the car. My Cuda was orginally b2 blue and I stayed with that since no other car like it in this area. The Cuda is also a restomod or custom with stock appearance and hot rod drivetrain and I like it that way. My Belvedere was a light blue but is now refrigerator white with red interior. It is an A990 clone, tribute, or whatever, and again I like it that way.
Build your car the way you like it and have fun.

Haha, well I happen to think nothing kills the looks of a classic Mopar quicker than factory donuts that couldn't even hook up with a 318. As far as the handling goes there are many of these cars doing quite well in auto cross with minimal suspension upgrades after all that's what the AAR Cudas were........weren't they? Your right about the 16" rims that's why I'm going with 18-19 haha and I guarantee you it will handle better for it. The difference between you and me is that although I may not prefer a factory correct car i appreciate the work, dedication, pride and personal sacrifices one makes to build one and just say "SWEET CAR". Like I always say "build it how YOU want".

paint color choice....

Go with what you like. I chose Gallardo Arancio Borialis Orange. A 2003 Lambo color. It's like a nice deep sunset orange.

PPG, Paint Code: 905385
RM (BASF), Code: L0E2
Glasurit, Code: AD5521 + AE5520
Spies-Hecker (DuPont), Code: 742887

Note that this is a three-stage paint (yellowish orange base coat, pearl second
coat, clear coat on top).

Good luck!

I keep looking at Chryslers { Inferno Red } 2010 - 2013 chip chart.

Its a tri coat and pricey but that is one deep color with just the right amount of flake.
If I ever shoot it on something of mine I would use black sealer.

If you go with something other than the f5 spend a couple bucks for some 1/2 pints and do some spray out cards to get a real good look.

any color looks good as long as the quality of the work is there....... if you see any chance of selling it in the future, go with the original

I am one of those people that like greens.
I'm not found of most blue colors. Some exceptions to that on some cars.
I like earth tones.
Stay away from black. It's hot, shows dirt and flaws.
I would not recommend a custom color. Stay factory.
If you must change the color and consider a HIP color.
Don't do Limelight. It's over used. Y3 would be better.
And not purple. Too cliché.

This is a tough conversation to have with someone.

You are going to have the guys who feel that it's fine to do whatever you want to your car and then you have the guys who think you have some sort of personal responsibility to keep the car exactly as it was originally and if you deviate from originality in any way, you are committing some sin against Ma Mopar.

I am one of the guys that believes you should do what makes YOU happy. Go with your gut. If you like that silver, you should go for it. Just the fact that you aren't crazy about the stock color is enough reason (to me) for you to deviate from originality. You need to find that color that really excites you and go with that. Afterall, you are going to probably have to live with it for a while. And the thing that is most apparent when you look at a car is the color.

My car was originally red. I personally hate red. Red cars look girly to me. No offense to the guys with red cars, it's just my personal opinion. I couldn't even go with Tor-Red. It was still too red for me. I went with the newish Dodge orange. 2013 Header Orange.

All of those original earth tone colors are just so drab to me. Couple an earth tone colored Mopar with those 14" rally wheels and to me, you have a car that my great grandma would have bought. Boring, done, and overdone. Dare to be different.

I think that pic you posted is righteous. One thing to remember is: No matter what you do, not everyone is going to like your car. You need to do whatever it takes to make YOU love your car.

Go with what you like. I was looking for a high impact 440 post console car but could not find anything that was going to be street legal here in Sweden so I ended up buying this.

First I was skeptical about the color and had a total respray in mind the second the car arrived to Sweden, but as it sits in the garage I quite like the color even though I have no clue what it is. It's more purple than Garnet...

Bottom line - don't care about what other people think about your car - go your way with it.

When I was 18 A friend of mine showed me a picture of his 69 Black roadrunner with hood stripes. I have never been able to get that image out of my head. almost 30 years later. My opinion is the darker the better on that body style. The lines on the sides of the fenders when the light hits them, the stance, the curves, the stripes, soooo sexy!! oh where was I..... I think any color on that body looks good. If were a Hemi car or A12 I would say keep it factory, but in your case anything goes. Good luck and I hope it works out for you in the long run.

There is nothing to me that looks better than ANY mopar in gloss black with flat black treatments especially billboard cudas.

I even like the modern mopars and even the modern shelbys with that treatment. Just looks super tuff to me

I'd go with a factory color that was available in that year. The wild 70-71 colors just don't look right on the earlier cars.

I'm of the opinion of do what you want, even if it isn't the most popular thing at the time. Build it for you, not someone else. You can't please everyone so ya gotta please yourself ( name that song).

I'm going through the same thought process with my 66 Belvedere and love the color of the car you put in your post. Do you have info on that particular color. My current color is Yellow and it does nothing for the car - hides all the lines.
