I have a Gibson LP Firebrand that I bought in 78. I've played it for about a year then got married and seems like everything in my life was changed. Had a couple of other guitars that were sold back then but hung on to this one. There's one on Ebay that probably represents mine pretty good ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_The_Paul ) that's for sale for a BIN of 1300 and starting bid of 1000. No bids yet but that seems kinda high to me? Mine has a couple of small scratches on the back and has what I say is normal wear for a years worth of playing at home. Never did any gigs with it plus I really like to take care of stuff like this. Never did like that well used look on a guitar. I've pulled it out of the case from time to time over the years, tuned it and played a bit but haven't played in years now and have been thinking about selling it for the past 3 or 4 years. So, why keep it if I'm not going to play it? Will take pics of mine if someone wants. The hard shell case is a Gibson that came with it when new. And thanks for any replies.

I didn't have much in the way of musical abilities when I was young but I did play on the linoleum.

I'm not an expert on used guitar values by any means, but I've seen this particular model Gibson sell used in the $700 to $800 range in excellent condition. I will ask around among my guitar playing buddies to see if anyone is interested.

Cranky im no expert on them but a Gibson normally will bring in some bucks, i have a Gibson Humming bird my dad bought when he was 15 and i wonder myself what it may be worth although selling it i don't think i could, it may surprise you in the worth on yours though...

I just bought a Gibson Les Paul ebony special for my son and it cost $600 second hand. I would say yours is probably in the $700-$900 range. Good luck if you sell.

Hi Cranky,

My son is nuts about guitars, so I asked him and he thought it was worth $800, give or take, depending on condition. I know nothing about guitars, so I am just transmitting the message. It seems this is in line with what a couple of others said.

cranky I have been buying and selling vintage guitars off and on for years, I would say that your value is the 800.00 to 1,000.00 range depending on color and condition, that OHC is an added bonus you have to take in when pricing these.

Not trying to hi-jack your thread Cranky, but as a collector, I would say you have some good value in that guitar. I recently bought myself something that I need to learn to play....

Brian May Red Special replica (only a handful of real ones exist)

I'll throw couple pennies in too.. After reading your post, I thought 1k was a little high, I was thinking $800 range. I would definitely agree with the other posts all in the same range. The good thing is it is a Gibson. If you decided to, you should have no problems getting $800 out of it with the case. Good luck!

I guess the big question is__________________do any of you play these things or just look at them??????????????? My old Epiphone f160N Texan12 has set in its case since since 1980. I bought it in 1976. What type of music do any of you play?

Started playing in the mid 60's and as time went on, played less and less then got married in 79 and pretty much quit because she didn't like the music which was rock and roll mostly. Sure wasn't about to start playing C&W back then but like some of the older stuff now. Really don't know why I married her (or why she married me) because she disliked most of the things I liked and did including my cars and bikes and the way I drove them.

Nice collection! I'll get some pics going your way shortly but man, I can only imagine what the shipping cost would be. PM me your email and I'll send the pics to that.....

I don't know anything about Gibson, but I sold a 65 Fender Jazzmaster for 6k a few years ago after I found out what it was worth. I had owned it for 25yrs and used to only pluck at it. Bought it from some guy I knew back in 80's for $60.00 with the Audiovox amp.

My folks started me out on a Fender steel guitar when I was about 8 years old and I switched to a regular guitar a couple of years later. So I guess I've been playing for damn near 60 years. People tell me that I'm pretty good, but I don't think I'm that good. I think that most musicians wish that they could play better and that's part of what keeps you learning and playing. I like to play mostly classic rock and blues. I bit the bullet and treated myself to a new Martin acoustic last year. It's by far the best guitar I've ever owned.

I want a Martin too one day..

I play mostly blues and rock as well..Oh and a try and keep up with Satriani too, but my 47 year old fingers are more used to working on cars these days.. ;)

In 74 I completely cut two tendons on my middle and ring finger on my left hand just up from the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints and after the initial therapy, playing the guitar probably helped me get nearly full use of those two fingers back. Kinda thought that was going to be the end of playing....

I'm glad to here that some of you are still playing. When I did play it was Cat Stevens, CSNY, James T, DR. Hook, Rye Cooder,, Bob Dillion, And the list goes on. Can't play **** anymore.
