Hey guys, my bud was here today on his way home from work and during conversation happened to mention that the 440 wedge he is saving for me has "DART" heads that he installed on it. He was running an M1 intake and a huge carb of an unknown CFM. Explain DART heads for a 440 because I thought they only make Chebbie heads.

never heard of dart heads on a 440.

its not a chebbie 440 stroker is it

No and that's the weird thing, I've seen the engine, recorded the head castings and block castings and intake numbers. It's 74 440 from a motorhome. Period. Why would he try to convince me that he has "dart" heads on it? He must be smoking his kids weed or something.

From what i can see on the DART website:
Their product line is Chevy Big & Small Block along with Ford Small Block....

Maybe he thinks edelbrock and dart are the same thing?

It's hard to tell. He has a nice shop with a 4 post lift and lots of tools etc. He has two early 40's pickup hotrods he built that are very tough. There's a 1973 Charger SE on the lift that he's restoring. So, on the one hand it seems that he knows what the f**k he's doing but then he says dumb stuff like that. He's got a 426 street hemi on an engine stand too but wont sell it. I mean, he was standing right next to me while I was writing down all of the casting numbers, he was holding the flashlight. So how could he think that I would believe what he said when he knows that I know they are stock 440 wedge heads? I'm cornfuzed. I also don't want to make him think I think he's a dumb *** cause I like him and he's my neighbor. And I want that 440. I guess I wont say anything about it.
Geez.. he came by again and while we were leaning on my pickup he looks down at my cars rear axle laying in the driveway and says that his DANA 60 is just like mine. It's a 8 3/4 non Dana.

Reminds me of the first week I spent with what turned out to be my father in law....he told me he bored a 350 out to a 454.....10 years later and an easy 20 cars between the two of us he finally admitted to not knowing ****. He does now tho

So, if you wrote down all the casting #'s share them with us and we can help you figure out what you have there. A 4 post lift and nice tools doesn't make a mechanic that knows anything.

Let's just hope he hasn't stuffed Chevy pistons in it.

Sounds like one of the 'know-it-all' guys who waste time for my buddy MowPar on a regular basis. I was working on the engine in my GTX a few years ago, and he came up to me, looked at the engine......and then the stoopid pedal got floored....

He says "I used to work on those 454's all the time back in the '60's" :eusa_doh: I just looked at him in disbelief, and said "Mate, this is a MoPar not a Shitbox Chebbie"

He's a really nice old fella, but boy is he stoopid!!

exactly. I think it's that he isn't a computer user. He is relying on knowledge he has from his own experience and stuff he's heard others say. He don't know that I am gonna look up everything he says and verify. Plus he has some serious family issues going on right now. I don't know, I think i'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I might need his help some day. He might need mine. Gotta let small issues slide.
