Lowering a 66 Belvedere

I'd like to lower the stance of my 66 Belvedere 318 Poly by 1 to 1 1/2 inches all around. I know a CCW turn of the TB adjusting screw will do what I need, but I also know it will throw off the alignment dynamics. So, I have a few questions... to what degree will the ride and handling be effected, can I still achieve a factory alignment and what is the process to lower the rear by the same amount? I've read other posts, unfortunately not specific to my car, and have seen references to after market hangers that don't require "elongating" the bolt holes in the frame brackets. I've received invaluable help from the fine people in this forum. Thank you.

pull the leaf springs and have them re-arched so the rear will sit lower.
 
I went with a Hotchkis TVS and larger torsion bars. My car is lowered a little over an inch all the way around and with the stiffer torsion bars I get nowhere near the bump stops.

If you want to stay with the stock equipment there are offset upper control arm bushings my Moog that will help with alignment specs.

For the rear there are brackets that will raise the front leaf spring hanger lowering the car. Or have the springs rearched.

You will want an alignment after changing the ride height.
 
Another option: Lowering blocks that fit between the rear springs and the axle housing. Summit, Jegs and Calvert all have them.
 
I lowered my 66 Belvedere to within 1" of the bump stops, did my own realignment to my specs and it did fine. My leaf springs were already flat when I got the car so I left them on but have used lowering blocks on other 66-67 B body cars. It also handled much better lowered and with the added negative camber.
 
why not lower the front with the adjusters and drive the car to see if the ride is ok.if good,use blocks on the rear and get aligned.1 inch isnt a ton,so why not see if it can be aligned with all the stock parts.worst thing you will need to do is get the moog offset bushings,or adjustable upper arms.
 
B body cars generally don't need the offset bushings as much as the A bodies do. I was able to get the alignment settings I wanted on mine lowering it as much as I did....
