I have a driveshaft with a Mopar 7290 u joint and will be getting a dana rear end with a 1350 series pinion yoke.

How do I mate these up correctly

Do I just buy a 1350 u joint and have it pressed in ? how do you install and will it fit ?

Thanks for the help as usual..

ralph

you can buy a combo universal joints

you will need the width of both and the cup diameter

You could get a special joint, or have a 1350 series end put on your shaft.

Where in Jersey are you?

Buy only Dana Spicer Quality, Call DTS for the part. Mate up a true 1350 Joint. The Dana Spicer is still 3x better than off brand product.

Hey guys thanks for all the good information

I am in central jersey near the englishtown racetrack

Sounds like the best way to go is have a 1350 put on my current driveshaft since the dana is longer than the 8 3/4 and I may need to have it cut down

how much space should I leave so the I have some play in the system, meaning after measuring the correct dimensions between the yoke and back of the trany example make 1 inch shorter ?

You will definitely need to have your driveshaft shortened. Its been a long time since I had mine done but iirc it was 2 to 2.5 inches maybe. Had 1350 joints done at both ends. Only makes sense.

I just got a complete TKO tranny kit (tranny, shaft, etc) out of 68 RR (Dana rear) and the driveshaft length was only 1/2" short on my 8 3/4" and I used the mentioned universal joint to mate the two.

Difference 8 3/4 and dana

I am not sure exactly what car you are working on but, this would work for all applications.
This should give you the right length difference 8 3/4 [51.50"] and dana [50.39"] which would make the shaft 1.11" shorter with a dana. So regardless the length that would be the difference.
Information is from 69 parts book and the specs are for a 69 RR or GTX.

Hello,
I'm also putting a dana under my 62 Dart. It has a 8 1/4 under it know. So will the drive shaft work with the dana?
Thanks

As you can see in the chart there is 1.78" difference between the dana and the 8 1/4.
If it has a 8 1/4 then just shorten the 1.78".
Make sure you use the proper u-joint.

The measurement [c] is taken from the housing tube center line to the pinion housing as in the chart.

as said earlier, have a driveshaft/clutch shop shorten the shaft and at that point put on the 1350 series yoke. If it were me, (and you can afford it) I would have the front changed also. No sense in having a small diameter, lighter duty u-joint in a heavy duty setup.
