Another "Why would they do this" to a Mopar

I have read other humorous posts about what some creative mechanics have done to vehicles and wanted to give you all a chuckle or groan when you see this one. It is a 1972 Satellite that I'm getting back on the road.

All I could figure out is they welded the metal on to maybe prevent bottoming on speed bumps. They are too high to drag them and make a spark show on pavement. Could not be to add strength. Already cut one off before taking pics.

All I can think of is some mind altering chemicals going on.

If the welded in metal was not there, the tranny pan and driveline could be damaged if the car was lifted by a long forklift.
