I am about to paint my 68 charger RT and am curious what you guys are doing for paint underneath.

It has survived with virtually no rust, because it had an undercutting applied when new. I'm doing a total restoration including a complete sandblast and am debating what to do on the undercarriage. I've heard of people putting a truck bed liner and then painting that. I'm not really even sure if I need a protective coating. I won't be driving in the snow, but will undoubtedly run into rain on accident.

What do you guys think?

I haven't used it myself yet. But I've been looking at the Lizard Skin product. Great reviews from what I see. Good insulator and sound deadener. Thinking about using it in my wheel wells, fenders and inside doors and floor, undercarriage, etc.

x2.

Looking at more than $1000.00 for enough to do all 4 wheel wells, both doors, trunk, floors and firewall and roof. $199.99 +tax at Eastwood for 2 gallons.

Less expensive at Summit. Plus free shipping over $100. Didn't really consider how much needed though.Must not go very far. Did you use that much. What car?

No disrespect Ghost but Geeeezuse EFFing Christ!
By your math above you're saying 10 Gallons to do a B-Body. You sure?
What did you do, just pop the lid on a can and throw it at the car?

Looks like the lizard skin is used for thermal and sound protection, isn't conventional undercoating used to help protect metal from stone chipping and moisture?

Used lizard skin on my resto several pictures on thread of inside and out

I used KBS 'Rust Sealer' coating. Similar to POR15 but I have heard that POR15 needs an amount of rust to help attain the proper adhesion - can me as little as flash rust, but on clean metal it can flake off. POR15 will stick to anything properly cleaned... including hair on your head and legs and arms... ask me how I know...

I painted the underside of both my cars the same as the topside. Neither car is a daily driver and does not see rain/snow.

This what I plan on doing as well. I paid too much to have the original undercoating blasted off only to gunk it up again.

With the time and money I'm putting in this car, I don't plan to drive it in the rain or snow either, but sometimes the weather guys are wrong.

Maybe I'm over thinking this and paint will last for many years. I definitely like the looks of paint better. I guess I'm just trying to protect my investment.

I've used this on a gas tank before and it worked good, it's been a while, but I think it was kind of a pain to prep if I remember correctly.

It seems like a nice product, but is it a rust preventative too? I'm also curious about whether or not it can be sprayed without texture.

I used the sound & thermal both on the inside. Took 1 gallon each to do inside & out of car. Then top coated with paint.
