Hey folks! I need your help. I posted some pictures of the relays The relay on the left is always warm to the touch. It will also run the battery down. I'm sure it has something to do with the hideaway headlights. Is there something else keeping this relay energized al the time?

yea, probably the hold open switch is in the "up" position...flip it down and listen for a "click"......if you hear a click, means you have a limit switch issue at the front grille

Also, I will not warranty the relay set if have other issues causing these to burn out. I suggest a service manual as well

While I was looking for the hold open switch, I found this. The one wire was broken off. Now, what is it? I tried to upload photo's but, no luck. I'll keep trying

that's a headlight limit switch in the front grille to stop the motors from turning...that being broken will not cause your relay to get hot..I bet you have another bad limit switch up front, or the buckets are out of adjustment to contact the limit switch...

again, I suggest getting a service manual on this system and read up on it...there are 2 pages of troubleshooting diagnostics in there for just the rotating headlight motor system

the headlight hold open switch is on the left side of headlight switch..it controls the ground to stop headlight motors from turning closed

Only luck I had finding 67 limit switches was I believe A833 wing and he wanted 250 for them. I got lucky and found just one in my spare parts from my 66 that was a 67 limit switch which is what I needed.

I will look in my 66 parts if you are not in a hurry and if I find some you are welcome to them for free.

there are left and right side switches.....makes a difference

There is/was a fella (Topher) that sold new limit switches. I haven't heard from him in a while though. He has his own website... headlightmotorman.com

you can rebuild the switch by yourselve. it´s not that difficult. you only have to find a matching micro switch, the rest is a little work
i did it this way for my charger, the switch costs 3€.. it´s a waterproof switch for automotive use.DSCF0512.jpgDSCF0513.jpgDSCF0514.jpg

A383Wing knows the headlights on the first gen Chargers. Between his postings and Topher's page I was able to find enough info to fix and rebuild my mine. Thanks for the info A383Wing. You are the man!

That's great info. BUT, I can't read German! It'd be nice to have

here you can find product specifications in english.
you can use other switches too, but it must be a switch, which opens the connection when pushed. also the push button must be long enough to reach through the hole, and the adjusting screw can push it. the buttons of the most switches are to small.. i had to buy some different switches to find this wich works.
