This is kind of a sad story, (sorry)...these cars have been sitting in a backyard in Canoga Park California since 1982. The Owner has NO intention of selling either.
The GTX is a factory Tor-Red w/white interior, 440 six pack/4 speed and Super Track Pack option. The Barracuda is a factory lime light car 383 4 barrel auto. equipped....that car is sitting on the brake drums!!. (a friend of mine knows the owner having grown up in the neighborhood, and filled me in on the specs. '70 Barracuda and GTX 036.JPG'70 Barracuda and GTX 038.JPG'70 Barracuda and GTX 039.JPG'70 Barracuda and GTX 040.JPG'70 Barracuda and GTX 041.jpg) From the backyard it looks like an abandoned house...from the front it looks somewhat normal, most Mopar guys I know have been by the house trying to buy either one....but no such luck.

From the looks of the dump he is living in, it tells me the guy might be a mental case. Any time I see this its the same story. He probably lives the same way inside the house.

I agree, you know he also has a '73 Barracuda in the garage....that's all original.

Sad but true. Cars will rot to the ground

It is Southern California. It never rains in there.(what the Beach boys say anyways)
Don't have to worry about it rusting to pieces like they would in other parts of the country.
Just have to wait for the bugger to die off, and then they will be scooped up.

This is exactly the scenario that I got my 70 GTX from... Except my GTX was the ONLY car in the garage. The backyard looked like a junkyard filled with all sorts of junk and cars: Falcon, 57 Chevy, 68 Cougar 429, 66 vette 427, etc. It took me 2 years of steady working on the guy through a close friend. When the guy needed money due to health issues, he finally sold me the GTX. I have been working on the vette now for 6 years... Nothing. Just waiting for the next illness...

BTW, the inside of his house was just like the outside. Room enough to only walk between the junk. Keep working on the guy. See if he has a close friend or family member you can get in good with to also try on your behalf.

I once had an opportunity to get a 69 Charger 500, but just like this, the guy refused to let it go. He had a yard full of junk, bowling balls, etc. He didn't know it was a "500", just a Charger, but it was just going to rot away where it was.

Look at the bars on the windows of the house. Nothing good goes on there.

damn shame. at least being Cali cars they have a chance

Exactly, I just bought a '71 GTX that was sitting in the original owner's apartment complex parking lot since new out in Los Angeles, the car is 99% rust free. If it had done the same here in NY, there would be nothing left!

Hey everybody. I hear ya SS, it's a shame such people wont let things go even though they can't or wont take care of them. We are supposed to be stewards of these cars, so the next generation can have fun with them like we do. I'm glad they are in So. Cal.

Both are desirable cars! The owner will never do anything with them, he probably gets some sort of enjoyment out of having something that other people want.
The good thing is they still exist, hopefully some day they'll end up in the right hands.

I'm liking that (RCA?) color console TV sitting there next to the Cuda. Think he'd part with that for a fair price since he's not interested in selling the cars? :)

People like that make me scratch my head. Like they get off knowing you want what they have, so they will let it rot rather than make cash.

Nice thing about the USA is that we still consider private property to be just that, private; and as such, the owner can do whatever the hell he wants with them. They're behind a fence in the guy's backyard, hurting no one. And if they rot away, they rot away. Some people won't sell, no matter what. And if they have been there for 30 years, there is a good chance they'll be there 30 more.
