Just purchased a 68 Charger, and have always wanted to build a General Lee. Body is pretty nice, but PO had it tubbed, and narrowed the rear end. I plan on leaving the tubs alone, but fitting a Ford 9" rear under it. Floors are original, and in good shape up to the added on rear floor. Paint is the original Charger Red, and had rear quarters replaced. Came with a non #'s matching 440. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions along the way. Thanks in advance. Here are some pics. Let me know what you think.

Looks like an awesome car ! May I ask, since it's a 68 & not a 69, is making another GL a " must" ?

Not a must, but I've seen some 68 GL's out there, and I just thought because it has been "modified" from original it wouldn't hurt the value. Painting it back the original Charger Red has crossed my mind. Either way I'm just happy to have a good body for a start.

Well, value aside, do what you like. The 68 stands on its own as one of the best styled cars ever made. Good question though, concerning value.. which way would affect its value more ? Different schools of thought on this.

Welcome to the site. Looks like a nice starting point as far as rust is concerned. 68 is the best year Charger imo and I would have a hard time not putting that one back to its original colors. I agree with the others that there are enough GL's already. That Charger red is not far off from the GL orange, and believe me you will have a lot of people comparing it to the Dukes car.

Welcome. I am with everyone else here. Stay away from the General Lee look.

Building a bullit charger would be very cool.

Just build it the way YOU want it. If a General Lee tickles your fancy then do it. What ever you decide to do just keep the pictures coming. A 68 Charger is a 68 Charger. Meaning it's already way cool regardless of the color you chose. Have fun and do what makes you happy

I agree build it how you want it (and if it's a GL you want) I, however do have a different suggestion as I don't think a Bullitt tribute would be right for a tubbed car but you could build a Blade tribute??

Nice car and welcome . I'm a little more of a purist and never did like seeing roll bars or tubbs in mopars of any sort, but it's your car and if the GL is what you want I say have fun with it man, that's what's great about it being your car you can do what you want. For reference though they did use both the 68 and 69 in the Dukes of Hazzard show.Just sit back and watch the show you'll see the 68's in there too.

I know they converted some 68's to look like 69's. So some were 68-styled cars in the show ? Guess I never noticed :icon_cyclops_ani:

I would go the Bullit route.

Welcome to FBBO Skeeter1

I agree, :iamwithstupid:
I'd go the Blade route
maybe the Bullitt or
even a tribute to Dirty Larry Crazy Mary route
{it's still the wrong year, not a 69 & arguably the 68 is the best looking body style ever made}
long before I'd ever recommend doing, yet another DOH GL clone thing also,
neither will increase the perceived value, it's already modified, just have fun with it...

But that's just me & it's not my car, so do what you will...
Have fun & do what ever makes you happy...

I really like the looks of this. Thanks for all the comments, and keep em coming. Just curious..just how bad does the modified tubs, and the roll bars hurt the value of this caliber car?
