I was watching tonight's episode of Graveyard Carz, and one of the bumper questions was what year was the first year for the purple roadrunner horn. Worman said it was 1969, and the reason it wasn't purple with the Voice of the Roadrunner decal in 1968 was because Warner Brothers hadn't approved the use of a full color Roadrunner decal in 1968.

According to Jack Smith, it was Dick Macadam, the styling director at Chrysler Plymouth and chief opponent of the Roadrunner effort who picked the black and white Roadrunner decals because he wanted the decal to look as bad as possible, and that had nothing to do with any restrictions from Warner Brothers.

Also, Plymouth used a color Roadrunner decal on the steering wheel center an in advertising for the 1968 Roadrunner, so I'm thinking once again... Mark Worman is wrong.

No, he was right. For the princely sum of 50k, chrysler got the rights to use the cartoon version of the roadrunner for 69. as well as the coyote. Everything i have ever read on the subject over the past 20 plus years supports this

Then you might want to read this: http://www.allpar.com/corporate/bios/jack-smith-roadrunner.html

According to Jack Smith, those rights were bought and paid for in 1967 for use on the 1968 Roadrunner. They had to have those rights before they could use any Warner Brothers art on the car.

This also describes how the horn was a last minute addition to the car, which is why it was installed as it came from the vendor, which was black.

Worman is a know it all who knows nothing..
You could go on nonstop pointing out his errors

I've never had a 100% original 1968 Roadrunner, but did they have the color decal in the steering wheel?

Well
For me gentlemen.....
It is simply 'eye candy"

Entertainment and eye candy....

I think he knows a lot, but this is the second time he's been wrong on a bumper question so he doesn't know everything.

Gee
It would be neat if he answered "select" e-mails after each show....

When I die and come back...I hope I come back as his Grand Son....

THAT KID will have it made...

Mark knows a lot like many folks that have been into mopars most of their life. I though it was 69 too, but nobody knows it all though he does credit Tony D'Agostino as a guru.

My oldest brother bought a new 68 Runner in April of 68, the horn was black and I don't remember a RR decal in the horn button , maybe a silver Plymouth emblem.

I wouldn't be that harsh. He knows a lot, but who other than us on the B Body forum would know when he is wrong? I noticed the amount of "gas" he poured into the carb LOL
Mark Worman, I know you monitor this site, send me a PM..........................MO

The horn button was the same as what was on a sattelite. Stuck up off the steering wheel a ways- flat silver base with a pliable black top. That is-- for the black steering wheel..................MO

I get it, worman is a blowhard, but lets be reasonable here - no one is perfect and no one is 100% right all the time.

Okay, I was wondering about the horn button, but that question seems to be answered. But still, according to Mr. Smith, who damn sure would know for certain, they bought the rights to use the bird in 1967 and were using the full color bird in advertising so there were obviously no limits from Warner Brothers that they had to use a B&W bird, it was Dick Macadam who picked the ugliest decal they had (the B&W walking bird) because he hated the idea of having a cartoon on one of "his" cars, and the horn was a last-minute addition so there was no time, nor I suppose reason, to modify it from it's original military specification paint job.

Worman is right about the year, no doubt about that, but was wrong about the reason.

How about this....for the guys that love to bash the show, don't watch it!! No-one is perfect in my opinion and the ones on this forum who think they are..get your own show and knock yourself out!!!! Happy New Year everyone!!!

Guy

Yeah, but Hemi Guy... Worman is constantly saying how he is perfect. And who waits two seconds to call out anyone on this forum, or anyone else on TV or in the media, when they write or say something that is incorrect? Why should Worman be treated any differently?

Only watched that program a couple times. Too much drama. Oh yeah, what about "his dance"? Looked like he was about to vapor lock.
